Parish Announcements

FOOD COLLECTION

Please help us to assist St. Philip’s Episcopal Church Food Pantry in the Near East area.

When you go grocery shopping please remember to help the less fortunate with a couple of cans of vege-tables or other items. Staples such as rice, spaghetti, cereals, peanut butter, and canned fruit are also good. There is a real need for diapers, soap and oth-er hygiene items that cannot be purchased with food stamps. There is a box in the Living Room for you to leave your contributions. PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS and COUPONS are also good to give.

Buying food for many families and seniors, is a hard-ship. More than ever, hunger and food scarcity is a problem and is occurring at the same time as a cut in the food stamp program. The thing we contribute are really needed and helpful.

And for all having a birthday this month.

TELL US HOW TO REACH YOU!

Why is this important? Because it could save your life...

Recently, a parishioner who regularly attends meet-ings did not show up for several days. No one heard from him. Concerned for his safety, a fellow church member tried to contact him. Checking the parishion-er’s pastoral care contact file, information was found on how to reach a neighbor and friend. As a result of team work with the neighbor, medical assistance was provided and a dear parishioner’s life was saved.

This sounds dramatic, and it is! It illustrates how im-portant it is for the church to have a “contact person” for you in case of an emergency. All information is confidential.

The church is your place for renewal, and sometimes

rescue! Please take a minute to contact Rev. Ni-

colette, Eileen Becknell, or Ernestine Ujah to supply

your information.

Lenten Study

Series

taught by

Rev Nic

GROW, SING, EAT…the BIBLE

Ever wonder if farmers grew crops, how they watered them?

Did Adam and Eve really eat apples?

What’s the big deal about the Virgin Mary and the pomegranates?

Why do we sing those psalms and hymns in church?

Where did all that music come from anyway?

Did Jesus really eat goat for dinner?

What kind of snacks did the disciples eat?

All this and more will be answered in ourLen-ten study, beginning Wednesday even-ing, February 21 at 6:30 p.m. A sim-ple soup supper is provided. The class meets every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and continues through March 21. We will wind up with a biblical potluck dinner made from simple recipes that Mary might have fixed for Joseph and Jesus. You can sign up for dinner and class, and for bringing food if you are able. Sign up sheets will be posted in the Living Room beginning Sunday, January 21st. You may also call the church office to sign up at 614-253-8549. Please indicate on your sign up:

1. I will attend.

2. The food you will bring.

Saint Alban’s Memorial Garden …

is a “pearl of great value.” Perhaps not coming to mind when naming the top five things that make Saint Albans great, it quietly stands to remind us of all the best qualities of the parish. And of those pa-rishioners who have “departed this life in thy faith and fear,” and who are now numbered among the saints.

Never the less, there are individuals whose efforts should be recognized for all they do to improve, maintain and tend the Garden.

Foremost is Ellen Yen. She has utilized her knowledge and love of gardening to ably serve as contact person for the contractors who service the irrigation system, provide landscaping services, pro-vide arboreal services, maintain the water feature, and perform the gardening activities during the grow-ing season.

Peter Williams provided the financial underwriting to turn the Memorial Garden Poem into a striking physi-cal monument at the north entrance to the Garden. (If you have not had the opportunity to observe this feature of the gar-den, I urge you to do so.)

Jack Farrer personally insured that the worn and weathered wood and plastic honor plaque on the wall of the Ed. Building was replaced with a cast metal version more closely matching other plaques within the garden.

Finally, thanks and acknowledgement are extended to all those who volunteer as members and advisors to the Memorial Garden Committee. Without their interest and guidance, the Memorial Garden would not be the “pearl of great value” that it is to Saint Al-ban’s.

Respectfully submitted, Robin Harris
