Don gorge volunteers meet alternate Tuesdays at the landing site car park at Nursery lane Sprotbrough. They would like to see anyone who enjoys the outdoors & has an interest in the preservation of our countryside to work alongside a group of like minded people. They also visit the Peak district to work with the rangers, learning skills such as dry stone walling. The Quiz night at the Sun inn on 12th March in aid of DonMentia was a great success.

This was only to be expected with all the fantastic support offered by the volunteers, Simon who set the (slightly easier!) questions, the good food provided by the very willing and obliging Sun Inn staff and, of course, all those who attended and took part. We raised £550 which will go towards some of the items on the request list from the Mallard (dementia) ward and the Memory Therapy Services.

The Children’s Society in Sprotbrough is organising a house-to-house collection of envelopes in as many homes as we can between 11 April and 25 April.

If an envelope comes through your door, please put as much as you can in it to help those children suffering from poverty and neglect. Someone will come to collect it.

If we can’t get round to you, please send a donation to; Victor Hext, 40 Riverhead, Sprotbrough (01302-854467). And if you’d like to be a collector (of about 20 houses), Victor would be delighted to enrol you!

The Coffee Morning held at Sprotbrough Library on the 7th March realised £410, many thanks to everyone who supported this event.

Coffee Morning 16th May at Sprotbrough Library 10am-12noon proceeds to St. John's Hospice and Bluebell Wood.

Home-Start Doncaster, a registered charity, has been helping parents to build better lives for their children for 30 years. The early years before children start school are vital in a child's life. At Home-Start we believe parents play the key role in creating a secure childhood for their children. It's just sometimes they need a bit of help!

Our home-visiting volunteers are committed, caring people who offer their time freely to support local families who have at least one child under the age of five. Volunteers are usually parents themselves, or have parenting experience, and bring with them personal experience and skills. They are friendly, approachable, reliable and can be trusted by parents to listen without being judgemental.

If you feel you have what it takes to become a Home-Start home-visiting volunteer we would love to hear from you. We offer a highly regarded Preparation Course which is held one day a week over nine weeks. This will prepare you for home visiting, and give you a thorough understanding of the role of a Home-Start volunteer. Your work may be accredited at Level 2 if you wish.

Once linked with a family you will visit them on a weekly basis for 2-3 hours providing support with a wide range of difficulties such as providing an extra pair of hands for parents with twins or being a friend to a single parent who feels isolated. REaL Ladieswear in Tickhill is proud to be organising a Charity Fashion Show at the beautifully restored Victorian stately home, Rossington Hall near Bawtry.

The event will take place from 7.00 pm on Wednesday, 15th April and tickets are still available, priced £45.00. Only the cost of the meal will be taken from the ticket sale.

Guests will be able to enjoy a mouth watering three course meal in the grand chandeliered ballroom, followed by a

The event has been inspired by many of the lovely REaL Ladieswear customers who have been affected in one way or another by Cancer.

If all of the 100 tickets are sold, the event will be able to raise a fantastic amount of money for the local Aurora Cancer Charity (Registered Charity Number 1142015) as well as donating an amount to the rebuild of the Tickhill Cricket Club.

The Fashion Show Event will also include raffle ticket sales and prizes as well as an auction to bid for other prizes. Any prize donations would be greatly received.

Please be aware of the following: The Yorkshire and Humber Region has seen a significant increase in reports of vulnerable people being ‘cold called’ by Bogus Police Officers over the telephone. To date there have been over 46 reports across the region of victims being phoned by offenders impersonating a police officer.

Victims are told their bank account has been compromised and they need to transfer money to another account or hand it directly to a ‘Police Officer’. During the conversation the fraudsters will ‘connect’ the victim to their bank to confirm what they are saying but this connection will be false.

Victims are encouraged to hang up and wait 5 minutes to ensure the connection has been cleared and then contact their banks or use a mobile phone to make the call. The public are reminded that the Police will never ‘cold call’ and ask personal details about bank accounts.

If anyone is worried or has been contacted by these bogus Police Officers please contact the Police on 101 or if it’s happening at the time 999.

The service is going to strength to strength and has settled at EDDT Station Road Dunscroft where it has an office and 5 counsellors working together with outreach in Moorends, Thorne, Stainforth and Hatfield at 6 other centres. The service has 16 counsellors working and giving their time free. There are 8 counsellors working in Thorne/Moorends. Clouds CCS offers a Bereavement Service, A Young People’s Service and an Adult Service for those who have longer term needs. Counsellors are available throughout the week and Saturday morning clinics are available in Thorne and Dunscroft. The service does accept self-referrals together with third party referrals (with permission) and from other Doncaster areas if space permits.

We have been working hard seeking funding and have been awarded £25,000 and the service is secure for the next year and has some funding in place for year 2 and 3. Clouds CCS thanks all who have supported the service, Tweenbridge Windfarm, Sycf, Brelms Trust, Coal Regeneration Trust, Grassroots Community Fund, St George’s Rotary, Free Masons, Thorne Chapel, Kilham Hall Community Centre at Branton and client donations. We are most grateful for all this support which is enabling us to support so many people. We offer over 50 appointments per week.

School News from Copley Junior School

Well Done to Jemma! Well done to Jemma, one of our Year 6 pupils, who decided to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Jemma took the initiative to raise money for this worthwhile charity in memory of her father, who received valued support from the British Heart Foundation. Jemma worked with a group of friends to prepare a powerpoint for assembly, she organised a non uniform day when children were invited to come to school dressed in something red, the British Heart Foundation mascot made a guest appearance as you can see and Jemma also organised a very popular raffle. So far, an amazing £670 has been raised. We are very proud of Jemma for deciding to raise money to help others and demonstrating great organisational abilities. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to the fundraising; your support means so much to Jemma’s family at this difficult time.

Orchard Infant School News This half-term, the children at Orchard Infant School have been learning about healthy eating and where the food we eat comes from.

To introduce this work the children enjoyed class visits to the Tesco store in Balby, where they took part in ‘Farm to Fork’ activities. These included; looking at different fruits and vegetables and their country of origin, cheese tasting, visiting the in-store bakery and identifying various types of fish at the fish counter!

A highlight of the visit for the children was having a ‘sneaky peek’ in the store's staffroom where they all enjoyed a drink and biscuit as well as sampling some delicious fruits! Following this, they were taken on a tour of the warehouse, including the opportunity to go in the freezer and chiller! All the children who took part were given an individual goodie bag with samples of food to take home.

As part of their follow up work back at school, the children have enjoyed writing recounts of their experience, learning about the food pyramid and sketching their favourite fruits.

Year Two children have made their own sandwiches as part of a visit by Warburton's bakery whilst Nursery children have enjoyed making their own pizzas, fruit smoothies and vegetable soup! Delicious!!!

The staff and children at Orchard would like to say a big thank you to the staff at Tesco and Warburton's who have helped to make our learning so enjoyable.

Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree... In 2012, me and two friends thought it would be lovely to have a Christmas tree in Sprotbrough village. A representative from DMBC contacted me and began to work with me on the idea. Time passed and our work all came to nothing for rea-sons I don't understand. The death of one of our small group put the idea out of my head till this year.

On one of my many journeys from Bawtry to Sprotbrough via Tickhill, I was struck once again by the gloom and darkness of Sprotbrough at the top of Boat Lane entering the village. I decided enough was enough and resurrected the idea. A chance remark by a friend about 'street life' community notice board web site, meant I could reach people almost anonymously to test the water for support. Immediately support came through with offers of time and finance and donation. After attending my first ever parish council meeting I understand a letter has been sent to DMBC asking for support.

As yet I have no reply but remain optimistic! Since then I have been inundated with offers of help ranging from the Don Gorge groups offer to dig the hole for the tree , to a local business per-son who has offered to fund the whole thing. Finding the right person or department to allow us to site a tree opposite St Mary's church on land owned by DMBC is a nightmare. And all the while time is passing. I would hope to have the tree sited and decorated by Christmas 2015 so the wheels of local government need to crack on if the target is to be met.

Other areas of the parish might also like to have a similar project and if successful with this I am hap-py to help. We have to start somewhere to lift the doom and gloom. We will never have decorations on the scale of Bawtry or Tickhill but we can put on a good show.

Any support you can offer will be invaluable . I await a reply from my local DMBC council member to my e mail asking for help through the red tape. As I said, time is marching on. Planning Christmas in January seems extreme but let's wait and see. Thanks Carol Rees Sprotbrough Resident
