Profile of David Name Means: "Beloved, friend."   

Home: Bethlehem during his youth; probably Gibeah while he served Saul; Ziklag during much of the time while Saul pursued him; Hebron during the first seven years of his reign; Jerusalem during the rest of his reign.   

Family: Was a son of Jesse, a descendant of Judah; had seven brothers and two sisters; married to numerous wives and concubines, including Saul's daughter Michal, Abigail, and Bathsheba; father of numerous sons and daughters, including Absalom and David's successor, Solomon; ancestor of Jesus. 

  

Occupation: Shepherd, court musician, military commander under King Saul, and king of Israel.

Best Known As: The king under whom the Israelite monarchy was firmly established; most significant ancestor was Jesus Christ. Also known for killing Goliath, the Philistine giant of Gath, with a stone from his slingshot.

David desired to build a Temple…

• How did David pray – initially David didn’t pray, he only had in mind what he wanted to do for God. God does most of the talking!

• Where did David pray – “the city of David”, Jerusalem

• Who was involved - God, David, Nathan

• Why did this prayer matter – God declared who He was and what He was going to do, David expresses Thanksgiving

• What was it’s outcome - The line of David was established forever!

Prayer of Thanksgiving1 Chronicles 16:7-36

• Thanked - “Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.” (v 8)

• Praised – “Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.” (v 9)

• Glorified – “Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.” (v 10)

• Honored – “Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” (v 11)

• Reverenced – “Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced” (v 12)

• Remembered – David reminds the people what God has done for them

• Entreats - Cry out, "Save us, O God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name,        that we may glory in your praise."
