The Southern Timber Co. *** January 2016 Edition *** [email protected] Tel: 01803 813803 www.southern-timber.co.uk We would like to wish you a very happy New Year and hope that you had a good Christmas. We re-open on Monday 4th January at the normal time of 7:30am and will be available for deliveries from the 4th onwards. This time of year is often spent reflecting on and planning upcoming projects. For those in need of a little inspiration we have Cedar cladding and shingles, Yellow Balau deckboards and a range of solid and engineered flooring options. We will also be introducing some new products throughout the year to complement our already extensive stock of carcassing timber, sheet materials and insulation, and will aim to keep you up to date via this newsletter every month. Western Red Cedar (above) grows in the Pacific Northwest of America, from northern California to Alaska. It is known for its excellent durability for a softwood species and for machining very well with good finishing properties. It is principally used in the UK for exterior cladding and shingles although it is becoming increasingly popular for visually striking fencing. We also stock tanalised softwood and James Hardie fibre cement cladding options and can source Siberian Larch along with other species. Please contact the Sales Office for more information. We also carry a variety of options for decking projects and along with our tanalised softwood deck boards we stock Yellow Balau in a 150mm width, which is a very durable hardwood well suited to deck construction. With a mixture of warm colours of golden browns, light browns and pale reddish-browns, Yellow Balau offers a unique colour range which will sit beautifully within a natural environment. Millboard composite decking boards are moulded on real oak and then hand coloured to reproduce the detail of natural wood with minimal repetition. It retains an exceptionally stable surface with a stunning appearance throughout its entire lifetime. It is low slip, has a non-porous surface that repels algae and never rots, warps or gives splinters, making it ideally suited for domestic and commercial use.

We added this Elka Real Wood Engineered Rustic Rural Oak, Sawn & Smoked engineered floor (14(3)x189mm) to our stock last year and it has proved popular for it’s rustic appearance but also its dimensional stability and compatibility with underfloor heating. It has complemented our solid oak character board which is always in demand for its durability and natural appeal.

A great example of how these products can be brought together can be found in this South Hams summerhouse. On the exterior of the build Cedar Shingles, Siberian Larch cladding and Hardwood decking have been utilised while the interior uses sawn and smoked rustic rural engineered flooring and untreated softwood for panelling.
