We are back in business… We’ve got a meeting space… They even opened the building just for us when our meeting date fell be-tween quarters. We’ve never had service like that before. And just in case you haven’t joined us in the new location, we are steps from free parking. While the room is on the 3rd floor you can either excite your Fitbit by climbing the stairs or easily access the 3rd floor by elevator Now we are looking for suggestions for programming. We are interested in new technology, management of technology, career pathing,

Chapter BoD Meetings… We tried using a conference call for our BoD meetings… It seemed to work well and for those of us who had been traveling about 70 miles round trip, it saved a lot of time. If you’d like to participate in a BoD meeting, contact the Chapter Secre-tary/Treasurer, Pete Schmitt to be included on the reminder notice and for connection information.

Project Management in 30 Minutes
A quick run through the field of Project Management. No, you won’t be prepared to sit for the certification exam, but you will get a glimpse into the herding of cats known as project management. Even if you’ve no intention of taking up cat herding, as a technology professional, you WILL be involved in projects. Knowledge of the aspects of the field of project manage-ment will make your life easier. (And maybe even give you a heads up as to when you should be updating your resume as you see a project doing the counter-clockwise spin over the drain.)

Chapter News Those of us who ventured out in to the weather (rain and occa-sional hail) found it extremely easy to park on the Edmonds Community College campus for the March meeting as this date fell n the gap between quarters. But rather than being surprised by locked doors we found campus security waiting to open the building just to accommodate our meeting. In 36 years of coordinat-ing these meetings, we’ve en-countered restaurants that have converted our meeting space into a bar, places that have closed the meeting room and rented the space to another company, plac-es that have “lost our reserva-tions”… This was a new and most pleasant surprise. At the March meeting, we discussed an often over-looked aspect of physical security. When we talk about users being the weakest link in our data security environ-ment, we usually are ad-dressing the handling of passwords. This meeting took a wider look at the user,
and not necessarily a mem-ber of the information Tech-nology department and iden-tified things in the office (or home) environment which should not be left out or ar-ranged such that those whose need does not include such access can obtain items or knowledge that ne-gates our security efforts.
Remember that the renown hacker, Kevin Mitnick, credit-ed Social Hacking with the highest success rate in gain-ing the information he need-ed to attack any system. Why spend hours trying eve-ry possible combination when you can get the infor-mation you need either lay-ing about or by asking some-one who knows but who should not be telling just an-yone who asks.?
