This the first issue of Recharged Radio’s new eZine, out-lines our plans in conjunction with the Perfect Pop Co-op to put on a regular monthly night at The White Hart Tap in St.Albans, that will either go out live on Recharged or be recorded for later in the week. Ultimately the plan will be to make a live best of compilation that ‘fans’ can ‘earn’ through a loyalty scheme at each PPC gig they attend, basically at the first gig they attend, they will get a free loyalty card with one stamp on it, they can collect these at every Perfect Pop Co-op night until they fill their card, at which point they will receive a free gift from within the collective. Stamps can also be redeemed from purchase of perfect pop co-op band merchandise that will be on sale at every gig. You can check out all the latest news of each Perfect Pop Co-op night on our new ‘Sounds of the Suburbs’ show Tuesday evenings at 10pm.

As a prelude to the long awaited follow up album to 2009s ‘Whatever Happened to Friday Night’ The Scratch released their current single - WAG POTENTIAL on Friday 18th November 2011 - Written in anticipation of Fabio Capello’s ‘mighty’ football team’s certain conquering of Euro 2012 (!?)
Here’s a bit about what happened back on April 16th (National Record Store Day), where the band hot footed it from David’s music in Letchworth and a live instore performance launch of the then newly released Homely Crackle (7” vinyl). http://shop.thescratch.co.uk/album/homely-crackle to record the video.
A WAG for life?
The Scratch would like to stress before you all jump to any conclusions that Wag Potential isn’t a song aimed at slating the very real and serious institution/career of ‘Wagism’, it is infact a euphoric celebration of the genre/art form, how ever you wish to describe it. and absolutely NO wags were hurt during the filming of this video.
The basic storyline is of a ‘WAG’s’ night out at a bar (62) in St.Albans (not necessarliy a WAG hotspot, but the band’s home town), for those of you unfamiliar with the term WAG (American or Marshian?) - here is the Wikipedia definition - WAGs (or Wags) is an acronym, used particularly by the British tabloid press, to describe the wives and girlfriends of high-profile footballers, originally the England national football team. The term came into common use during the 2006 FIFA World Cup, although it had been used occasionally before that.[citation needed] The acronym has since been used by the media in other countries to describe the wives and girlfriends of sportsmen in general.
There is high drama, sex, excessive alcohol consumption and even more excessive make up involved.

There are also brilliant cameo roles to watch out for by: Super and Gary (the doormen), John Scratch, Jord, Dave Worm and Matt (the letches at the bar), Sam (supporting Wag), Miles Dark-Stare (as premier league football star) and even a bloke who was casually drinking at the bar, when we arrived, who just got carried away by the whole thing and joined in! (as random bloke at bar) We regret to have to inform you also, that there was indeed extreme kebab abuse and lettuce photography - but that is in the hands of the police, so we’d prefer to gloss over that for now!
All in all, a brilliant day spent with brilliant people anyway, that’s talking, for those who missed it... here’s the vid!

SO WHAT IS A PERFECT POP CO-OP?The PPCO is made up of musicians, bands, artists, radio entrepreneurs and music fans. Our main aim and desire is to bring to the real music loving public’s attention; New, different and alternative live performers. In conjunction with our friends at rechargedradio.com, we propose to jointly promote and run independent nights at the White Hart Tap in St.Albans, with an open remit to pick acts that are either new, exciting, interesting (or all three!). One of the main pluses is that all of this will be available for exactly £0.00 entrance fee. On the monthly nights we hope to promote 2 acts per show; record them for broadcast on recharged radio (either live or for airing at a later date), shoot a few lo-fi vids for our site and as part of our collective ethos, make merchandise available for people to buy from all the interested and participating acts, to help raise funds and in turn the profiles of all the artists involved. Like latter day Robin Hoods (with a twist) we aim to steal from the bland and give back to the fans! (On a cerebral level only, I hope you understand!)
It’s also hoped that if the nights are a success, we’ll be able to produce some good old fashioned ‘bootleg’ compilations that we’ll make available online and at nights later in the year.
We’ve got this idea of our own little self fulfilling universe, that’s free for everyone to enjoy, so all we need now is your support. Apart from this zine

Although it would be very easy just to focus on the big 3 - The Zombies, Enter Shakari and Friendly Fires. St.Albans’ music scene is thriving. Despite the current climate, it appears people’s thirsts for live music are still in need of quenching. Whilst many pubs go down the ‘safe’ cover/tribute band route, there has been a growing and much needed movement towards bringing back original bands, after all you ain’t gonna write the next ‘She’s not there’ in a covers band are you?!
One of the pubs at the forefront of this is The White Hart Tap in St.Albans. Run by Andy and Erica, the ‘Tap’ is aiming to show the way in 2012 with a FREE entry, once a month (Saturday) live music night, with a difference.
The main aim and desire of the duo is bring in new, different and alternative acts to the usual covers acts that revolve on the local circuit and thus freshen up the scene. They have brought in local music collective ‘The Perfect Pop Co-Op’ (who you may have read about on page 3?) and ourselves (Recharged Radio) to help promote and run the nights, with an open remit to pick acts that are either new, exciting, interesting (or all three!). As Glabrous 'thud' bass (one of two) in the Tuesday Club (for they also have a 'twang' bassist - Dog Pasanda) recently commented on the Friday Forum show... "It's a joy to be in a band with no detectable ego or agenda, which is pretty amazing in an eight piece band.. I don't know how it does, but it works!".
With a mere 3 gigs under their belts The Tuesday club could accurately be described as a new band, this however
is as much an anomaly as the previous statement from their bass anchor. Born at various junctures between 1957 and 1982, the actual age range and experience encased within this mysterious 8 piece, would put many of today's more established reformers to shame.

"There's too much pomposity, too much sucked in cheek blue steel ethic, especially in London. The Tuesday Club just play for the love and the joy, we set our phasers on FUN and go for it."
With a look and style that falls somewhere between The Rocky Horror show, Carry on Screaming and Dad’s Army, the Tuesdays certainly give off a refreshing air of who cares, which has got to be worth something in todays dark days of austerity and excessively skinny jeans!

MY FAVOURITE TOYI've had my ARP Odyssey for about five years now. I bought it second hand in Bedford after responding to a classified ad in Sound On Sound; I paid with a stout collection of fifties, the most cash I have ever paid for a single object. It had no case so they gave me a ratty old blanket to take it home in (at no extra charge). It still smells slightly of fabric softener.
The Odyssey was ARP's third synthesiser, and was made from 1972 to 1980—I've got the earliest ver-sion, from the first two years of production. It's a great synth generally, but there are two things I especially love about it. The first is that it's multitimbral: it sounds different if you play one note from if you play two (you can only play two), and each of those notes can also
sound different. The second is that it's got a fantastic ring modulator, which you can use to get a distortion very like that from overdriving a valve amp with a guitar. We use sounds from the Odyssey on nearly all of our songs; nothing else sounds like it.
I love its versatility; it can produce an incredible range of noises, sometimes very weird ones. It can also seem like it has a mind of its own, but that means it's always surprising me—not a bad thing for an instrument to do. And now, I smile every time I smell fabric softener.

Model Staggs take their DIY ethic seriously. Their first ep is self-released, self-recorded, self-produced. In fact, self-everything. During the last year the duo from Cambridge have been working things through, developing a sound that goes further than stripped down blues rock. They make songs that are layered with warped bass tones, sophisticated melodies and rhythms.
