International Dinghy Class, between a team of three members of the Burnham Yacht Club and a team of three members of the Ranelagh Sailing Club. There were two races, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Both were won by the Burnham representatives, that in the morning by three points and that in the after noon by nine points. The starters at 4. 15 were: Elf, Messrs. L. Lowry and W. Townend; Peter Pan, Mr. A. S. Porter; and Pengwerne, Mr. W. E. Brown. Peter Pan had the worst of the start, but she won a somewhat tedious race by nearly half an hour from Elf, as follows : H. M. S. H. M. s. Peter Pan Pengwerne .......... 7 34 30 (winner) 6 50 25 Elf r ...................... 7 16 5 WALTON AND FRINTON YACHT CLUB Racing took place in a strong northerly breeze on Friday last week for the Gem dinghies with ladies at the helm ancl for the One-Design iS-footers. In the ladies’ race the starters were: Agate, Miss D. F. Harney; Jasper, Miss V. Wilson; Opal, Miss IL Chadwick. The helmswomen showed great pluck in sailing their little craft in weather so boisterous as to necessitate two reefs being hauled down. Opal got into difficulties with the mud and did not finish. Jasper won easily, and Agate was timed in 13 min. to sec. later. In the 18-footer class the following boats competed: Daf fodil, Mr. R. F. Garnham : Bilanbel, Messrs. J. B. Conly ami R. H. Palmer; Pierce Eye, Mr. P. Cole; and Cinders, Mr. E. A. Wiggins. The order of finish was : Daffodil first, Cinders second, Pierce Eye third, Bilanbel fourth. In the race for ladies on Saturday the starters in the Gem Dinghy Class were Agate. Miss D. F. Hamer ; Pearl, Miss P. Bacon : Jasper, Miss V. Wilson ; Opal, Miss H. Chad wick : Amethyst. Miss N. THE SOLENT SOLENT YACHT CLUB The Solent Yacht Club were at home for the 6-metre Inter national Class on jffne I j j but only three boats accepted the invitation, viz., Zenith, Thistle, and Reg. A fresh south westerly breeze was blowing, which demanded single reefed mainsails. They started at noon, and the course was twice round the Black Rock, Lymington Spit, and Solent Banks Buoys. Reg and Thistle made a good start, but Zenith was a little too soon for the gun, and the recross cost her over a minute. The wind was ahead to the first mark, where Reg was leading boat. Spinnakers were set to port for a run to the Lvmington Spit, w here they gybed and had another run to the Solent Banks. At this mark Reg was still leading and Zenith was almost level with Thistle. They worked short tacks along the shore, and after a great fight Zenith weathered Thistle before the end of the round, where Reg w as leading the second boat bv 3 min. 22 sec. Zenith (2nd prize). 3 3 42 ROYAL SOUTHAMPTON YACHT CLUB The Royal Southampton Yacht Club were favoured wit glorious weather for their opening regatta, held at Hythe > Saturday. There was very little wind at the start, and tl first rounds were sailed in fluky airs that came from all rout the compass, resulting in a number of flukes. Zenith b. a stroke of bad luck in going ashore w hen leading at the er of the first round, while Thistle lost third position earlier the race from the same cause. A welcome westerly hiee filled in for the final rounds and brought the boats hon much earlier than was expected. Details : Race for 6-metre International Class. T he Solent Y a ch t C lub w ere at home for the 6-metre Inter­national C lass on jffn e I j j but only three boats accepted the invitation, viz., Zenith, T histle, and Reg. A fresh south­w esterly breeze w as blow ing, w hich demanded single reefed m ainsails. T h ey started at noon, and the course w as twice round the B lack R ock, Lym ington Spit, and Solent Banks Buoys. Reg and T histle made a good start, but Zenith was a little too soon for the gun, and the recross cost her over a minute. T h e w ind w as ahead to the first m ark, where Reg w as leading boat.
