✠ 11:15 SOLEMN MASS ✠ SOLEMNITY OF OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM ✠ 27 SEPTEMBER AD 2020 ✠

Introit Rorate, cæli Isaiah 45:8; Psalm 19 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness:

let the earth open, and bring forth a Saviour. Alleluia. Alleluia. (Ps.) The heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament showeth his handy-work.

(Bow) Glory be to the Father… (Rise) As it was in the beginning… Drop down, ye heavens…

V. In the Name of the ✠ Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. R. Amen.

Collect for Purity, Summary of the Law Kyrie Choir; Mass for Four Voices, William Byrd (c. 1540-1623) Gloria Choir; Merbecke

Organ Voluntary

Collect V. Peace be with you. R. And with thy spirit.

Let us pray. O God, who, through the mystery of the Word made flesh, didst in thy mercy sanctify the house of the Blessed Virgin Mary: do thou grant that we may keep aloof from the tabernacle of sinners, and become worthy indwellers of thy house; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

The Lesson: Isaiah 7:10-14; 8:10 In those days, the Lord spoke to Ahaz, "Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven." But Ahaz said, 'I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test." And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a Virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call his Name Immanuel [God is with us]." Take counsel together, but it will come to nought; speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us. V. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.

The Epistle: Galatians 4:4-7 When the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So through God you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then an heir. V. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.

Gradual: Tollite portes Psalm 24:7,3,4 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors: and the King of glory shall come in.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord, or who shall stand in his holy place? Even he that hath clean hands, and a pure heart.

At that time: Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Mag'dalene. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son!" Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. V. The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise be to thee, O Christ.

Prayer of Thanksgiving (Almighty and everliving God…)

Postcommunion Grant, we beseech thee, O Lord our God: that these holy mysteries, which thou hast given unto us for the assurance of our salvation, may, by the intercession of Saint Mary the Virgin, be profitable unto us for the healing of our souls, both in this life and that which is to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Communion Anthems: Magnificat VIII Toni Ciro Grassi (1868-1952)

My soul doth magnify the Lord: and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded: the lowliness of his handmaiden.

For behold, from henceforth: all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me: and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him: throughout all generations.

He hath showed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble and meek.

He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel: as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, for ever.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

All:

I BELIEVE in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the

body, ✠ and the life everlasting. Amen.
