Starting from the need
How to inform the citizens about the trends and politics the city is focusing on within the Smart-City initiative?
How to stimulate new interactions between individuals and public?
How to support the discovery of local opportunities ?

Interaction
Users’ feedbackDifferent perceptual characteristics have been tested in laboratory with users: •Metaphors•Place-marks(shape, size, colours)•Typography
Usability issues have been focused: •NFC antenna placement •Response time•Intuitiveness of the gestures •Instructions and hints
In the wild
The peak audience was recorded on the Saturday, with more than 3,000 people visiting the area.
People interacting with the poster were:•Mostly young students of the primary and secondary schools. The youngest were accompanied by one adult •Boys interact more of the girls ( )•The adults we met where professionals
Results • The collective scenario is more frequent than the individual
one.
• People in front of the poster tend to start conversation (exploring the picture, commenting the topics,…).
• The groups tend to be small (3 or 4 people maximum; nevertheless they are more, such a class, or even among strangers) and homogeneous (especially per age).
Micro-interactions composing the experience
Individual
Shared
Summarizing Smart2Poster proposes a tangible interactions with a familiar object through mobile devices.
•By using the visual design and the proximity technology, it attracts people that tend to spontaneously undertake conversations on the suggested topics. •It is recognized as a familiar component of the urban scape, and in general not worrying since it does not propose technological complexities.•Ir offers a very flexible experience, since it leaves people free to interact according to personal needs, time availability, natural attitudes…
Being a situated smart-object, Smart2Poster helps people focus more
on the physical and social context.
Further steps
The stakeholders consider Smart2Poster an effective way to enrich already existing traditional communication tools and to design new form of communication with citizens.
Further developments:•System architecture improvement (cloud version)•Design of service models in other fields of application•Interactivity enhancement to:
– Allow users to push requests, data, likes, …– Trigger actions on other connected devices
(e.g. opening a door, printing a paper, …)
