had a few people come in and say, ‘Hey, I’m inter- ested,’ and they’ve left their phone numbers.” Shelving units may be added to the library as Ol- ivares said shorter shelves would make the space feel more open and easier to view. “I know we’re working on maybe getting different shelving units,” she said. “Maybe putting some shelv- ing units up against the wall, and maybe just shorter shelv- ing units so that way looking across the library is easier.” The interior is not the only aspect Olivares is focused on as she said she would still like to see a mural painted on the outside of the building. A few things must happen first, though, such as repaint- ing the outside walls, speak- ing with the focus group and determining a budget and artist. “I really love the murals that have been going up in Lubbock,” she said. “I think (the muralist’s) name’s Joey Martinez. I think it would be cool if we could get him to come do a mural, but I don’t know – I’d have to look into pricing and stuff and see what was do- able.” Looking around the li- brary, one can see signage posted in various areas to help people be mindful of COVID-19 limitations such as social distancing and san- itizing. About every other seat is blocked off to encourage distancing, hand sanitizer is available at every station, computers are wiped down with disinfectant after each use, returned books are sani- tized and set aside for about two days and a sign-in book is at the front of the room for each visitor’s contact infor- mation. “We have a sign-in book for the library, in case there’s any COVID-19 exposure we can let people know,” Oli- vares said. As far as activities go, Olivares said there is no summer program set due to COVID-19, but that she is working on getting people into the library as safely as possible. “I am trying to put to- gether a few small programs that maybe a few kids come in at a time or something like that,” she said. The library is open every day except Sunday. Olivares said having Saturday hours was important to her because she wants people to have a safe place to spend time to- gether as well as perform tasks they may not be able to do at home, such as working on a desktop. “Just making sure we’re still there for those people that need maybe computers, or for those families who are like, ‘Hey, what can we do?’ and like come in and find an activity to do or something; find a book to read together as a family and, you know, just kind of supporting the community,” she said. The library also accepts donations and Olivares said items that cannot be used by the library are placed in a location so anyone may take them home. “We do take very gently used books,” she said. “I’ll look and see if I can use them; if not, I’ll put them on our ‘free’ shelf for people to just come in and grab.” Although Olivares has much experience as a librar- ian, she said she still has many things to learn and would ap- preciate continued patience as she navigates her role. “I’m still learning,” she said. “It’s a bit of a differ- ence from an elementary library aide to running the whole library, even if it’s a small library – different pro- cesses and stuff, so different circulation system, different way of ordering books and stuff like that.” Page 6 The Slatonite July 2, 2020 Public Notices NOTICE OF SHERIFF’S SALE THE STATE OF TEXAS County of Lubbock NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN That by virtue of a certain Order of Sale issued out of the Honorable 99th District Court on the 9th day of May 2019, for the sum of TWENTY-THREE THOUSAND, THREE-HUNDRED FORTY-NINE DOL- LARS and Seventeen Cents ($23,349.17) under a Judgment in favor of PROPEL FINANCIAL SERVICES, LLC vs. SONYA CRUZ aka SONYA MARTINEZ/SONYA CRUZ MARTINEZ and MARTIN MARTINEZ DEFENDANT, in cause number 2018532172.
