-Aredhel, White Lady of Noldor, desires to depart from her hometown of Gondolin. She wishes to visit her friends the Faenor however.

-Turgon, Aredhel’s brother opposes however they soon come to the compromise, “Go then, if you will, though it is against my wisdom, and I forbode that ill will come of it both to you and me. But you shall go only to seek Fingon, our brother; and those that I send with you shall return hither to Gondolin as swiftly as they may.”

• Gondolin

-Aredhel accepts Turgon’s compromise and she rides into the realm of King Thingon with her escorts.

- The land of King Thingol is prohibited to visitors so they are forced to ride around this land to either the north or the south.

- Riding in between the haunted valleys of Gorgoroth and the fences of Doriath, Aredhel and the others become surrounded by shadows and darkness.

- Aredhel, knowing that her escorts could not see her, leaves the group and rides off on her own into the land of Celegrom.

Doriath

- Aredhel, after leaving the land of Celegrom, enters into Nan Elmoth where, Eol, a tall dark elf lives.

-Remaining in Nan Elmoth for a long period of time, Aredhel marries Eol and they have a child names Maeglin.

-Maeglin’s full stature and face resembles his kindred in Noldor however is personality relates to his father, Eol.

- As Maeglin grows older, his mother tells him that he is the rightful heir to the kingdom in Gondolin but Eol constantly refuses to let Maeglin and Aredhel leave Nan Elmoth.

Maeglin

One day Eol leaves the woods to feast in Nogrod. While he is gone, Aredhel and Maeglin leave for Gondolin so that Maeglin can inherit Turgon’s throne. Eol arrives home early two days after they leave. When he hears they have left he is outraged and chases after them on a faster horse. When he tracks them down he watches them take the secret passage into Gondolin.

-When Maeglin and Aredhel arrive in Gondolin they are received by Turgon happily. He believed Aredhel had died years ago on her journey.

-Turgon then accepts Maeglin as the heir to his kingdom. Soon after their arrival, Eol attempts to enter the city after he sees the pair enter a secret passage. He is then captured by the guards, who take him to Turgon for judgment.

The Heir of Gondolin

-Eol is brought before Turgon. Turgon tells Eol that he cannot take Maeglin and Aredhel and that he must stay in the city or die.

-Eol is outraged and draws a hidden poisoned spear and casts it at Maeglin. Aredhel saves Maeglin by throwing herself in front of the spear. Unfortunately she dies as the tip of the spear was poisoned.

-Turgon sentences Eol to be put to death and Eol is thrown off of the black rocks.
