Come Join Us in Memphis…..

Brush up on your Elvis impersonation, get down to some funky blues music and save room for some of the country’s best BBQ! The 7th Annual Green House Meeting and Celebration is going to be in Memphis, Tennessee on November 17-19.

This year’s conference will take place at the historic and incredibly beautiful Peabody Memphis hotel. The Peabody Memphis is located near Beale Street, a melting pot of delta blues, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, R & B and gospel. That’s where music legends like Louis Armstrong, Memphis Minnie, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King made their mark. It’s no surprise that Memphis is known as Blues City.

While you may be aware that Elvis Presley (born in Tupelo!) made his home in Memphis at Graceland, you may not be aware of the other attractions in the area. The Memphis Zoo is considered one of the best zoos in the country; Memphis is home to the National Civil Rights Museum; and of course, the iconic Gibson guitars are made in Memphis.

Our theme, Leading with Heart and Soul, will flourish amid this magnificent mecca where musical legends combined soul with talent and passion to become the pioneers for American musical genres.

The Green House Annual Meeting & Celebration is an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow Green House pioneers, to learn, grow, and leave inspired to lead as we continue to champion change that meaningfully impacts the lives of Elders.

8:00 am – 9:45 am New Green House Research: Implications for DONs and Nurse Leaders Breakfast with Barbara Bowers, PhD & Kim Nolet $25 for Session CEUs included

Join us as we unveil newly completed research that will impact how nursing care is delivered in Green House homes. The Green House Project has partnered with The Research Initiative Valuing Eldercare (THRIVE) to learn more about what contributes to better quality care, with implications for how care is delivered in Green House homes. This is a unique opportunity for Nurse Leaders to meet with members of the THRIVE research team, learn about the research findings, and discuss how it will change the DON role.

10:00 am – 5:00 pm Green House Leadership: Elevating the Art Faculty: Nancy Fox, Elizabeth Schulte, Marla DeVries and Claire Lucas $95 for Pre-conference – Includes CEUs and Lunch

Leadership for a thriving Green House Model is a delicate balance – it is both an Art and a Science. The Science of Leadership provides the foundation we need to express our own true leadership styles. But ultimately, taking leadership to the highest level means embracing the Art. Formal leaders making this powerful journey of transformation must continue to grow if they expect to create a context where every person is growing in leadership. And as every artist understands, that path to success is fraught with struggles as we work toward mastery. In this day of learning and growth for our Green House formal leaders, we will explore a deeper understanding of the Art of Leadership in a Green House Model.

Creating the Future: Developing a Roadmap for the Next Decade Faculty: Scott Townsley, J.D., Principal, Clifton Larson Allen $95 for Pre-conference – Includes CEUs and Lunch

In this innovative and thought-provoking strategic planning session for executives, participants will be challenged to think about the forces impacting senior care, how skilled nursing will evolve and the implications for leaders and their organizations. What will it take to succeed in the next decade? How can long term care continue to evolve to meet the changing demands of consumers and payers? How do we stake out a position that clearly articulates our value and keeps our organizations strong? And as leaders, how can you continue to lead the transformation of long term care? Combining presentation with workshop activities, each participant will walk away with a perspective for the next decade and a framework for their organization’s strategic planning process.

Ave Maria HomeBartlett, TN

Ave Maria built four Green House homes -St. Francis, St. Anne, St. Joseph and St. Mary to replace an aging nursing home wing (circa 1956). When researching options to either renovate or replace this wing, CEO Frank Gattuso and the board heard about The Green House Project in Tupelo, MS and visited that community. The visit far exceeded their expectations and they knew that building Green House homes would provide their elders with a true home that offered more privacy, dignity, independence and the ability to control their own schedules and activities.

Each home is 7,500 square feet and has private rooms with baths for 10 elders, a common living area, kitchen and dining room with farm house table, a den that is used for family meetings or guests, and a screened porch that looks out on a garden nestled between the four homes. It has a neighborhood feel and look with street lamps, benches and chairs, and wide walkways to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. The garden has been used for several elder and family events; including cook outs, an annual Easter egg hunt, picnics and live music.

Our elders are thriving and our family members are very happy to have their loved ones living in the Green House homes. Currently, we are raising money to build additional homes for the 35 nursing home residents residing in the remaining nursing wing. We want every elder to enjoy real home and meaningful life in a Green House residence.
