The ordination of new elders took place on Sunday
14th February at the morning service. See photo on
page 7.
There will be a meeting of the Kirk Session on 9th March.
The Stated Annual Meeting will take place after the morning
service on Sunday 20th March.

It is proposed to convert the West
Transept in the church into a
small chapel suitable for intimate
services. The pews will be
replaced with individual chairs
(shown in the accompanying
photograph) and members of the
congregation are invited to donate a chair or chairs
at a cost of approximately £120 each. This can be
done in memory of a loved one, if desired, and a
small tasteful brass plate of a uniform design could
be attached with a simple message or just a name,
inscribed at a small extra cost.

Hello Everyone.
We are soon to have what used to be called ‘the Quinquennial Visitation’, now called ‘Local Church Review’ which means lots of forms to fill in and a meeting with Presbytery delegates-no doubt necessary but not very exciting!
The big machine that will ‘bite down’ the remaining multi-storey is in place and is expected to get to work shortly.
We have a new entrance to the halls, complete with ramp, on the opposite side of the church. The church is still accessible despite part of Shawbridge Street being closed.
Our Spring Fayre is to be held on April 30th 10.00-12.00. Please come along and give us your support and friendship.

By all accounts the ‘Sparkle’ party on 12th February at Berryhill Drive was a resounding success and we
would like to record our sincere thanks to all who gave unsparingly of their time and talents to ensure the
38 folk who attended had a wonderful evening. The grand sum of £1800 (including Giftaid) was raised for
the roof fund, which just emphasises what we already knew—there are a lot of very generous folk out
there who deserve the church’s gratitude. Ed

MONTH
“Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know you have sent me. I have made you known to them and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” John 17 v25
Dear Friends,
Birds have been singing early in the morning for a few weeks although the weather has been awful. There are signs of spring in our gardens and borders. We look forward to warmer days, to the race of new growth. Fresh green and blossom will lift our spirits as the lengthening days invite us to clear away the layers of winter and nurture new seedlings, plant new plants, make new plans and look forward in hope.
During Lent we are asked to look inwards, to journey towards the Cross and stand in its shadow. For a little while we are left in the cold
aftermath of death; then on Easter Day Christ is resurrected and the world comes alive in the dawn of a new day. We look back at our Lenten journey with Jesus, the man, and stand to face the risen Christ who bears the scars of humanity on his resurrected body.
All over the world on Easter Day congregations proclaim: Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed!
Alleluia!
And we feel again the shock and excitement of Easter, when the power of God shatters our preconceptions and challenges us to live new lives as followers of Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
Risen Christ, reveal yourself to me. Tear through the prejudices which like a veil wrap me around and blind and deafen me to your presence. Shatter the arrogant assumptions which define where and when I might expect to meet you. Throw down the image I have made of you which is in reality my own image. Then, when I am lost and vulnerable, stripped of everything but openness, send me out to encounter you afresh in the resurrection garden of your world.

The Minister’s Letter
These monthly services are thoroughly enjoyed by
those who attend and there was some fine singing
at the February service accompanied by Susan on
piano and Robert on guitar. The March
Contemporary Service will be on the 13th at 6.30pm
and all will be made most welcome.
Each Monday during the period of Lent,
‘The Theory of Everything’ will be the theme
of the Lent Bible Studies at 7.45pm in the
manse from Mon 15th Feb to Mon 21st
March inclusive. A warm welcome awaits
you at the manse.

MID-WEEK SERVICES CONTEMPORARY EVENING SERVICES
The Guild has three meetings in March, all starting at 2pm on Wednesdays. On March 2nd, Anne Parsonage will tell us about the work of the
Glasgow Humane Society and of lives saved by her family.
On March 16th, two ‘weel-kent faces’ in Giffnock South, Alistair Park and Wilma Grant will be with us. The subject, dear to their hearts, will be The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. We will set extra tables that day to welcome members of the congregation and friends to hear of the caring work of the hospice.
On March 30th the meeting is entitled ‘Life’s a Gas’, the speaker being Dr Jane Chestnut. Come along and discover what lies behind that intriguing title, when the lady with the unusual name will explain all.

Curling Bonspiel
The 2016 Bonspiel is being held at Greenacres
Curling, Howwood, at 6pm on Friday 18th
March. The cost is £11.20 and, as two sheets
have been booked, 16 competitors to form

Our Art Club plans to hold a display and sale
of their new artwork on Saturday, 23rd April,
2016 from 10am till 1pm in the Winton Hall.
We invite all to come along with friends to
view and admire and perhaps buy. Tea and coffee will be on
offer. Proceeds will go to Charity.
ART CLUB
The March act of worship at Eastwood Care Home is on Tuesday 15th at 6.30pm. Our minister, Rev Catherine Beattie, will lead us in a celebration of Easter, the message of Jesus’ resurrection. Our service lasts for 30 minutes and we enjoy four hymns, readings, a choral item from our choir members as well as having our thoughts directed to the hope and joy of knowing that Christ is with us always.

Zipping for Muscles is on Saturday 12th March at 10am at Crieff. Elaine will zip on the wire and is looking for sponsors to raise money for Nicola’s Ninjas Muscular Dystrophy research. A sponsor sheet has been posted on the notice board.
A TALENT AUCTION is being held on Saturday 19th March at 2-4pm. Please fill in a donation sheet listing talents for auction-these can be any skill you have, baby-sitting, taking patients to hospital, airport carries, IT, DIY, etc. Please speak to any member of the events team. Come along on the day and bid for the talent of your choice.
The Palace Hotel, Inverness, is the venue for the 2016 church trip for three nights, Sunday 17th to Wednesday 20th April. The hotel is on the River Ness within walking distance of the city centre and has a swimming pool and spa. All outings are flexible.
Day 1:Dornoch Cathedral, lunch at Royal Dornoch Golf Club then Tain Glenmorangie, Anta Potteries or, weather permitting, a trip along the Loch Ness shores to Urquhart Castle.
Day 2:Morning at Culloden and afternoon at Fort George or Brodie Castle
Day 3:On the way home, Strathspey Steam Railway and House of Bruar

On 24th April there will be a Musical Afternoon in the church
with an organ recital by Alan Gillon with contributions from
soloists, students at the Conservatoire of Scotland.
A Garden Fete will be held on Sat. 14th
May, in aid of the roof fund. As plants
are needed for sale—please prepare
your seed trays NOW.
Heart & Soul in Edinburgh is on 22nd May and the bus will leave
the church after the morning service.
Tickets are now available for the Tattoo on Wednesday 24th
August. Bus £12, tickets £41. Please book now as tickets are
going fast. See Elaine or a member of the events team.
Kirk Session Action Groups
In March 2015 Giffnock South voted to adopt a Unitary Constitution. As part of this major change in the way our church administration is structured, seven new Action Groups were introduced to operate along with two existing groups, Fabric and Stewardship & Finance.
Each Action Group consists of members of the Kirk Session and members of the congregation, chaired by a Convener. This structure allows non-elders to play an active part in the life of Giffnock South.
The new groups are Mission & Outreach (Convener - Louise Orr), Nurturing Faith (Convener – Morag Steven), Worship (Convener – Catherine Beattie), Communication (Convener – Clive Bell), Stewardship & Finance (Convener – Brian Cochran), Fabric, Halls & Housekeeping ( Convener – Willie Dunbar), Fellowship & Events (Convener – Elaine Clarke).
More information on each of these groups will appear in the following months but in the meantime if you would like to take a more active role in your church by joining one of the groups or would like more information, please speak to the minister, session clerk or one of the conveners.
