  • Introduction

    What is a Sedu ?

    Sadu is a word that includes all products of either woven work or the incoherent knitting.. Sadu is characterized by certain colors and certain motifs. The colors of plants, natural wool, goat hair and sheep’s wool. The black is allocated to the roof of the tent, while the striped black and white are for the walls of the tent and the bright colors are allocated as ivitions and accessories to the tent. Women weavers were adapt at re-threading and restoring the tent Sadu is woven using machines and tools. .

  • The craft of Sadu weaving is still practiced to this day and it lists older women who knew this craft and who are still alive today. The craft also informs the human references of Qatar as it holds memories and documents the history of this country.

    The pieces on display in the museum and the Panorama that accompanies it, must show: - The importance of Sadu weaving in Qatar - Knitting pattern recognition, their symbols and how widespread it was

    - Identify the meanings of motifs through which the people of Qatar documented their experiences - How people of Qatar expressed their identity through decorations and expressive signs and symbols in textiles - The motifs used in Sadu weaving is common among country communities, and can be used in tracking the story of people in the desert and the sea.

    The Sadu is a textile woven by women that informs a tent or a (Bayt Sha’ar) and its furniture. It also includes camel equipment and accessories.

  • February we met with the people to record and take information. Reading the supporting research made us to contact local experts on this craft. With all the difficulties we managed to reach 3 very important women on this craft. Their name and reports will be find on NDrive. “Directions mention above” - Everything from Stage 1 is on the N drive – directions mentioned above. - BL can take it on a USB or I will ask Shermeen to email it to BL next week. - Muhamad Al Mulla has put the interviews on the computer but I can not find this folder. I will speak with Mohammed Bu Hindi or Mohamad Al Mulla when he come back.

  • Stage 2 - We will continue to meet people about Al Sedu - All the information collected will be put on the N drive - All audios will be on the N drive from stage 1 and stage - At the end of March I will make a brief presentation at Museography meeting to present Stage 1 and Stage 2 Comments and Recommendations from Stage 1 -First Remarks taken from local Experts is that : - Names and terms given to the pieces of the selected items should be changed . -some of items must be excluded as they are not Qataris . They must be substituted with other Qatari Pieces from the museum . - Some pieces are making one piece in the exhibition - The Experts doesn’t mind to come and join us in selecting items which we should make as soon as possible. - All the comments of local experts are on N Drive which we will read it and taken into consideration and which BL to read and add to supporting research documents.
