The Season for Giving Annual Turkey Trot
Did you know that one of
every four children in Arkansas
does not get enough food? It’s
not just missing dessert; these
children go to bed hungry and
not knowing if they will have food
the next day.
A big thank
you to our TAS
Community for
helping Student
Council with the
Turkey Trot this
year. It was a
huge success.
Over $1400 was
raised through
cash donations.
126 turkeys and 350 cans were
also collected. This event
supports the work of Potluck in
Arkansas which helps feed
struggling children and families.
The class that contributed the
most donations was Ms. McKay's
A&E Class. They will get to
enjoy a Chick-Fil-A class party.
A special shout-out goes to the
8th Grade Service Learning
Class for explaining the
importance and necessity of
this fundraiser
to TAS
students. Our
school
collected
enough to
help feed
over 250
families this
Thanksgiving.

DOODLE FOR GOOGLE
WHAT MAKES ME… ME: THIS YEAR'S CONTEST IS NOW OPEN. From cave paintings to selfies, artists have
always found creative ways of expressing themselves.
Now, with the Google homepage as their canvas, we’re
asking students to do the same. Young artists can doodle
with any materials to show what makes them unique, and
the winner’s artwork will be featured on the Google
homepage for a day.
For this year’s contest, students can create a doodle that tells the world “What makes me… Me.” Kids
have all kinds of things that make them unique, so they can use all kinds of materials to create their doodles
from crayons, to clay, to graphic design, even food and video games. Like all Google Doodles, each doodle
must incorporate the letters G-o-o-g-l-e. One national winner will also receive a $30,000 college scholarship.
The contest is open for entries until December 7, 2015. Visit:

TAS Athletics Panther Pride
Basketball season has begun for both Middle School boys and girls.
Both teams already have played several games and have participated
in our Panther Pride Classic tournament.
The Anthony School Panther Pride classic had a new format this
year. The Classic was held over a two-week span before the
Thanksgiving holiday. The 7th and 8th girls teams were scheduled the first
week followed by the 7th and 8th grade boys division.
Joe T. Robinson won both the 7th and 8th girls division. Although
disappointed that Anthony did not advance, the girls played hard and
were competitive.
The boys division was filled with fast paced, intense games.
Episcopal won the 8th grade division, and Joe T. Robinson won the 7th
grade division.
Ours boys teams fought hard, and hustled in their respective
games. The 8th grade boys won over Abundant Life before falling to the
eventual champions, ECS.
In the future, we hope to see the Classic grow with more teams
participating.

HOUR OF CODE
The Anthony School will participate in the Hour of Code December 7th – 13th. The Hour of Code is a one-
hour (or more!) introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can
learn the basics. The belief behind Hour of Code is that every student should have the opportunity to learn
computer science, which helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. Millions of students
worldwide participate each year! The Anthony School has participated in the Hour of Code each year since
its inception.
Want to try your hand at coding? Here are a few websites the students will be working from:

1st GRADE TOY DRIVE FOR ARKANSAS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Our 1st grade students hosted a toy drive to support the
Hematology/Oncology department at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in
October. Hundreds of toys were collected and delivered to the hospital. The
toys filled the toy closet for many children. All of the donations were greatly
appreciated. Thanks for helping the first grade provide joy to the children at
the hospital.
3rd GRADE VISITS TOLTEC MOUNDS
The 3rd grade recently took a field
trip to the Toltec Mounds to study the
Plum Bayou people who lived in Arkansas. While there, they learned how
the mounds were used in the daily lives of these people. The students
made arrowhead necklaces to take home and to remind them that
Native Americans, like us, enjoyed adding beauty to their wardrobe. A
park interpreter showed us a number of tools that these people used for
hunting and building. Students were able to touch and feel axes and
even got the chance to blow a dart at a target.

Día de los Muertos is celebrated every year on November 1st and 2nd.
This holiday is viewed as a celebration of life and remembrance of the
happy times spent together with the dearly departed.
7th and 8th grade students created tombstones and altars to honor and
remember famous Hispanics who are no longer with us. Items on the altars
and tombstones all have special meaning and are necessary to ensure the
safe arrival of the spirit and happiness of the person for which they are
made for.
R IS FOR RABBIT!
PreK3 and PreK4 have several animal visits thought the year from
The Museum of Discovery, Pinnacle Mountain State Park, and
sometimes from their classmate’s pets! On “r week” the PreK3’s learned
all about rabbits and had a special visit from Heidi, a chinchilla rabbit.
WE ARE THANKFUL FOR OUR PREK!
Before the Thanksgiving break, the PreK3 classes and PreK4 classes celebrated being thankful.
These photos say it all!

8TH GRADE ANNUAL TRIP TO THE ARKANSAS 4-H CENTER
On November 2nd, 8th grade students participated in the Arkansas 4-H Center’s award winning ExCEL
program. This is an experiential leadership program that presents the students with challenges, both
intellectual and physical, in a fun and positive environment. Highlights included ground-based team building
initiatives, an orienteering course, a rock-climbing tower, and a 300-foot long zip line. For more than 15 years,
this field trip has been taken annually by 8th grade classes. It is consistently one of the year’s most anticipated
events. More than just memories, this trip is a great opportunity for students to support each other, and learn
to work together as they aim to make their final year at TAS a great one.
6th GRADE BLASTS OFF FOR SPACE CAMP
Forty-one 6th graders and their sponsors spent two days on an adventure in space. Our able bus driver,
Tom, saw to it that we arrived at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, in time to store our gear and
begin our induction into the history of space exploration.
Anthony’s students participated in simulated astronaut training
programs including the Multi-Axis Trainer (MAT), the five-
degree Freedom Chair, and the 1/6 Gravity Chair. Each team
of students used equipment, designed by NASA, to take part
in a simulated “mission” to the International Space Station and
orbited the Moon. Using a prepared script, students worked in
a space lab, conducting experiments, controlling the orbiter
on our trip and donning space suits for space walks. Students attended an IMAX movie in the space dome.
Finally, we all made and flew rockets.
Lastly, we want to say a big thank-you to our 6th grade parents and sponsors for giving us this hands-
on opportunity to study the history of space exploration. Our crew trainers expertly guided us through our
adventure in space with laughter, fun and knowledge. We will treasure our experiences on this trip.
THE ANTHONY SCHOOL SPELLING BEE
Throughout the years The Anthony School has produced outstanding students who compete in the
school, county, region, and national spelling bee competitions.
The spelling bee rules are clear: There can be only one winner, but after more than 22 rounds of The
Anthony School Spelling Bee, two remained tied. For the first time school officials had to dig deep into the
national pool of eligible words to continue the competition. Daniel Chang and Jeff Smith were so good at
spelling that the competition's judges ran out of words.
Daniel and Jeff once again were the main attraction on stage as the spelling bee continued the second
day of competition. Jeff Smith won and will advance to the County Spelling Bee.
Congratulations to both Jeff and Daniel for their diligence in preparing for this strong, competitive
contest. The Anthony School is proud of Jeff and Daniel as well of all the students who participated:

LION KING JR. WRAP UP!
The 2015 Middle School production of Disney’s The Lion King JR. was a great success. Starting with our
VIP/Red Carpet performance, we performed 4 sold-out shows. Over 75 middle school students, and 70
elementary school students, participated in this amazing experience. Money raised through sponsorships and
ticket sales helped with some much needed stage improvements including brand new LED stage lights, new
lighting software technology, and additions to our sound system and set pieces. Additional funds raised will
be used to send 34 middle school students to Atlanta this January to participate in the Junior Theater Festival.
If you are interested in helping sponsor that event, please contact Nicole Mann at
For more information regarding Broadway Junior, The Junior Theater Festival, or iTheatrics opportunities,

Thanks to all of those who helped make this production possible! ~Nicole Mann
