Visibility• The lighting will vary

depending on the mood–Happy moments will utilize bright lighting–Sad moments will have faint lighting and have a spotlight to help the audience see more–To portray the love triangle and poor timings toward love, red lasers will be implemented on stage

• Autumn leaves will be on stage to brighten it up during happy moments

These are the color schemes, I want to use to brighten up the stage

Red lasers will be shined on stage subtly to show the love triangle and guide the audiences attention

This drastic change will show the change in visibility when the mood changes from happy to sad

Revealing Shapes and Forms

This beautiful stage will be used to start off Act II in a

serene & somber way after the first attempted suicide

The openings in the set and how the light hits them shows the many opportunities

that can happen within the play and

reveal an intricate set

Providing A Focus• There are two different approaches

since there is two clear moods• Happy and funny moments– Focus will be provided through red

lasers directing you toward the action and the affection triangle

• Sad and foreshadowing moments– The audiences attention will be drawn

through spotlights and shadows on stage

Establishing A Time & Place

• The Seagull, initially premiered in the 1890’s, but we want to incorporate the old school feel as well as utilizing new technology

• Our set will take place outside so it is important that the lighting resembles it so we will use a filter over the light

• Keeping the time period realistic we also want to have a scene lit by candles and a spotlight so it shows the simplicity of the times in the 1890’s

Lighting a stage with candles brings out the beauty in lighting

& resembles how most plays were produced at night

Establishing a rhythm of movement

• It’s important to make transition smooth and quick

• Audiences do not want to wait, but value quickness during changes in lighting and set

• There will be an extensive crew that sets the stage and lighting changes will only be made when the mood is set to change in the play

Reinforcing the Central Image & Metaphor

• The metaphor in The Seagull would be a clock– It symbolizes time and how everything

will happen when the time is right– The circle of the clock represents the

theme with timing playing a pivotal role with love and feelings

• Central image of our play would be love–With love the main color is red and it

allows the lighting to use red as a focal point
