Congratula-tions to the first three graduates of the Se-guin Electric Utilities Apprentice Program! Tim Martin, Freddy King and Joe Garcia received their Depart-ment of Labor certifi-cations in October.
The Seguin Electric Utilities Ap-prentice Program was certified by the DOL in January 2013. The four-year program provides meticulous instruction, training and job skill enrich-ment. Graduates must complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 575 hours of classroom instruction. Each apprentice is paired with a mentor who evaluates their

overhead, under-ground, service truck and substation work.
“This is a great accomplishment for these guys,” Seguin Electric Utilities Direc-tor Clarence Smith said. “These three graduates have im-proved their knowledge, technical skills and practical ex-perience.”
The program includes dozens of tests that include, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, electri-cal theory and me-chanical engineering. Participants are also required to maintain physical fitness. Mar-tin, King and Garcia each have more than 15 years of experience in the electric utilities industry. Five other
apprentices are cur-rently enrolled in the program.
The pro-gram is also certified by the Department of Veteran Affairs. The certification allows participants to utilize GI Bill ben-efits. Currently one apprentice is taking advantage of this designation.
Congratulations to Municipal Court Su-pervisor Landra Solansky for recently receiving a statewide award from the Texas Court Clerks Association!
“Landra is dedicated profession-al who does an excel-lent job administer-ing Seguin Municipal Court,” Seguin City Manager Doug
Faseler said. “She excels at providing quality continuing education to fellow municipal court ad-ministrators across the state.”
Solansky, the president of the Freedom Trail Chap-ter of the TCCA, was presented the Out-standing Achieve-ment in Education Award during the association’s annual conference in Octo-ber. Solansky is rec-
ognized for offering training to more than 200 city and county employees in her region.
“I was hon-ored to receive this award from my col-leagues across the state,” Solansky said. “I could not have accomplished the training without sup-port from the City of Seguin, the Municipal Court staff and the members of my chapter.”

It is very important that each employee reviews their personal records with Human Resources to make sure the information is cur-rent and correct.
An incorrect address will hinder you in receiving important information from the retirement system, City insurance companies and, if injured on the job, your tem-porary income benefits.
Incorrect beneficiary designations affect how quick-ly your benefits are paid out and who receives your life insurance benefits.
If you have changed addresses or have experi-enced life-changing events, please see Diana Johnston in Human Resources to review and/or update your personal information.
