Who We Are?

Education Dependency Action Team(EDAT) is a cooperative venturebetween Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and Our Kids, Inc. Staff members from M-DCPS and OurKids, Inc. are in the EDAT office inorder to improve communicationbetween the two agencies andprovide immediate response toschools and Our Kids Providersregarding issues and concerns thatmay arise during school hours.EDAT staff have immediate access topersonnel from the respectiveagencies in order to facilitate an expeditious response.

EDAT – EDUCATION DEPENDENCY ACTION TEAM

Involved Agencies

During the 2004-2005 school year,School Operations/Special Programsestablished an office that providesassistance to schools with issuesinvolving all children who are underthe supervision of the Providers forOur Kids Inc. formally theresponsibility of the Department ofChildren and Families (DCF). TheOur Kids Providers are:

CHARLEE of Miami-Dade County

Center for Family and Child Enrichment

Children’s Home Society

Family Resource Center

Kids Hope United

His House Children’s Home

Neighbor to Family

What Can You Expect From EDAT/JJSO

EDAT provides assistance to allschools with issues involvingchildren who are under thesupervision of the Providers for OurKids, Inc.

Staff is responsible for monitoringand maintaining the DCF flag whichidentifies dependent students in theM-DCPS Integrated Student In-formation System (ISIS) database.

Other responsibilities include:

• Directing DCF/Our Kids, Inc.case-workers to theappropriate school personnel.

• Addressing educational issues.

• Clarifying dependency issues(e.g., identifying and locatingcaseworkers, determiningdependency status ofstudents, determiningTermination of Parental Rights(TPR) status, and approvingout of area transfers).
