PREPARATIONS are in top gear for this year’s Sandbach Transport Festival. The annual event, celebrating the town’s transport heritage, comes to town on the weekend of April 18/19. SANDBACH School staged three evenings of Dance and Physical Theatre last month. Around 150 students across the whole age range performed and amazed the audiences

with their professionalism and flair. Numbers included, a pirate dance, Fosse style jazz, ballet, hip hop and contemporary. (Pic by Alex Robinson, Year 11.)

Have your saySANDBACH reisdents can now comment on the newly drafted Neighbourhood Development Plan for the town. Parish of Sandbach.People’s views will influence the final draft plan before a further consultation by the Local Planning Authority and subsequent independent examination. NDP Working Group chairman Ian Knowlson said: “This is a

key milestone in the process of making our plan and a significant amount of work has been undertaken by town councillors, community representatives and volunteers so far but there is still much more to do.” A copy of the draft plan can be viewed www.sandbachneighbourhoodplan.org.uk. SANDBACH

SANDBACH Town Council is working to develop and expand the town’s monthly markets. To be held on the second Saturday of the month, the Sandbach Makers Market will be launching on April 11. Carolyn Lowe, organiser of Sandbach Farmers’ Market, said: “The Farmers’ Market was created to provide an interesting and welcoming event in the heart of the town. “During the last five years it has grown and evolved, most recently with the addition of the Artisan Market. “It is now time for it to develop again and I am delighted that the Makers’ Market have agreed to take the reins and bring their own special magic to Sandbach. “The advantage of working with the Makers’ Market is that they draw customers from a wide area, which in turn attracts a greater variety of traders, thus providing a much better market for Sandbach residents.” Victoria Jackson, event

manager for the Makers Market, said: “We pride ourselves in delivering delightful specialist events with many award winning local producers of unique goods that compliment rather than compete with the permanent retail offering. “The aim of our events is to ensure we create a monthly happening, that is enjoyable and a must in the diary, consequently bringing the community together, helping to create a sense of place and increasing footfall for the local businesses. “We will work hard to protect the relationships that have been forged over the last five years of the Sandbach Farmers’ Market, protecting the relationships with the regular stall holders, community groups and performers.” The monthly Sandbach Makers Market will showcase award winning local food, drink, art and craft producers and artisans, as well as music, performance, cookery demonstrations and activities.

SANDBACH School students and staff took part in Red Nose Day with a range of fun activities. They received a donation from Roberts Bakery of Red Nose cookies, which they sold to raise more money. The school also ran a red-themed non-uniform day to raise cash for the appeal. The highlight of the day however was the very popular ‘Soak the Staff and Slime A

Senior Teacher’ event. Deputy head Stuart Dodds, assistant heads Neil Darling and Kevin Sykes, and head of Year 7 Mark Sanders, suffered the slime while other members of staff were soaked by the students all in a good cause. At the close of play the school raised just under £1,500 with some money still to come in. Pictured is Mr Dodds ‘enjoying’ the slime treatment.

STRONG FINISH

SANDBACH RUFC are eyeing a strong finish to what has been a successful season in the National One Midlands league.. The team almost spoiled the party for South Leicester in a hard fought contest away, eventually losing 36-22 to see their hosts become champions.

But the Bradwall Road boys are now looking to maximise points in their last four games of the season. On the loss, team manager Stuart Battersby, said: “Overall, given the circumstances Sandbach could be satisfied with their performance.

“Sam Sherratt made a brief cameo performance as a taster of perhaps more games in the front-row at this level. “Also huge thanks to Mike Potts who didn’t get on the park, but by stepping up at the last moment showed remarkable commitment to the club.”

Following a week off Sandbach face their final four games, all of which are targeted wins to complete a great first season for the new coaching team. Currently eighth in the table, Sandbach are at home to Burton on Saturday April 11.
