The Salvation Army Provides Ongoing Assistance
Following Nepal Quake By Cody Saltsman
Steubenville High School graduate Cody Saltsman has worked to assist others through his participation in various service activities and organizations. As a four-year member of his high school’s Key Club, Cody Saltsman assisted local families, raised money for children with leukemia, and took part in several Salvation Army programs.
Over the last two weeks, the Salvation Army has been helping individuals and families in Nepal as they deal with the aftermath of a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country on April 25, 2015. The quake, and the number of aftershocks that came with it, devastated the region in and around the capital, Kathmandu, and claimed the lives of thousands of people.
Introduction
Even more people were injured, and a large number of families were left without shelter and basic necessities, as homes, businesses, infrastructure, and communities throughout the country lay in shambles.
In the days immediately following the earthquake, the Salvation Army rushed three emergency workers into Nepal to set up a recovery plan and begin working with local officials and other aid organizations already on the ground in the country. So far, Salvation Army teams have provided tents and blankets to dozens of families and distributed food and water to thousands of people.

Currently, the organization is focusing much of its work on remote mountain villages that have yet to receive much direct assistance.
