SATERN MEMBERS ARE AMONG THOSE
OPERATING SPECIAL EVENT STATION WW1USA
ON May 7 and 8, 2016
Amateur radio operators, including many SATERN members were involved in
the operation of a special event station on May 7, and 8, 2016 commenmorating
the courage of sailers during the Battle of Jutland. This battle was the largest
naval engagement of WorldWar I and the only full-scale clash of battleships
during the “Great War.” The battle was fought from May 31 to June 1, 1916 in
the North Sea near the coast of Denmark's Jutland Peninsula. There were
approximately 250 ships involved in this large naval action. Fourteen British
and eleven German ships were sunk, with great loss of life during that battle.
SATERN members pictured from left to right are Bill Gery (KA2FNK), Joe
