(John 1:12) "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" (John 3:16-17) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. {17} For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." (John 5:24) " Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (John 10:27-30) " My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: {28} And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. {29} My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. {30} I and my Father are one." (John 20:31) "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."

DESCRIPTION

Long ago, when the Roman Empire was at the height of its glory, a common saying was “All roads lead to Rome.” Back then this city was so rich and influential that the only important roads were those leading to and from Rome. But there is one road that leads to an even more magnificent place than Rome ever was! This road, which Christians refer to as the “Romans Road,” is actually a set of instructions written to all the citizens of Rome. If they believed and acted upon the instructions written to them, the Roman people could come to know their Creator God and live with Him forever in heaven! The author of the “Romans Road” is the apostle Paul, a disciple of Jesus Christ. Paul’s instructions for salvation are not only for the Romans, they are spiritual truths sent by a loving God to all people. This document will present these truths of scripture to you and guide you along your personal journey of the “Romans Road.”

The Romans RoadLong ago, when the Roman Empire was at the height of its glory, a common sayingwas “All roads lead to Rome.” Back then this city was so rich and influential that theonly important roads were those leading to and from Rome. But there is one roadthat leads to an even more magnificent place than Rome ever was! This road, whichChristians refer to as the “Romans Road,” is actually a set of instructions written toall the citizens of Rome. If they believed and acted upon the instructions written tothem, the Roman people could come to know their Creator God and live with Himforever in heaven! The author of the “Romans Road” is the apostle Paul, a disciple of Jesus Christ. Paul’sinstructions for salvation are not only for the Romans, they are spiritual truths sentby a loving God to all people. This document will present these truths of scripture toyou and guide you along your personal journey of the “Romans Road.”

BELIEVE GOD’S BOOK! As your guide, I must warn you that the philosophies of thisworld lead to a dead end. The world would have you believe that there is no absolutetruth, that one person’s belief is just as good as another, or that two different thingscan both be right. But these philosophies go contrary to Scripture. Instead ofanswering life’s greatest questions, they only create more! Unless you accept thatthe Holy Bible is the perfect and true Word of God, you will get lost in a maze ofopinions and never arrive at the truth.

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: thecommandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Psalms 19:7-8

THE WAGES OF SIN – The apostle Paul wrote of a serious problem that all of us have.He tells of this problem in his letters to the Romans and the Galatians:

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:10

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ ourLord.” Romans 6:23

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which Itell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall notinherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21

REPENTANCE – Now is the time to turn from your sin and embrace God. The act ofturning away from sin is call “repentance.” This word implies an inward decision tofollow and obey God’s will instead of your self-serving sins. It means changing yourmind about sin and seeing it as something that grieves God. The Bible says that Godwaits patiently for all people to make this decision:

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise…but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willingthat any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”2 Peter 3:9

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch notthe unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and you shall be mysons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”2 Corinthians 6:17-18

BY GRACE NOT WORKS – At this point we encounter a wonderful truth – one thatseems to run contrary to our normal way of thinking. God rejects any attempt toearn our own salvation. Only God’s own righteousness is acceptable to Him, and Hewants to clothe us in it. Paul writes:

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him thatworketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted forrighteousness…Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.” Romans 4:4-5, 7-8

Many people simply cannot believe that salvation is so easy, and furthermore that itis free. Without a guide, many people take the wrong turn of trying to pay for theirsalvation with good works. Trying to get to Heaven with an “I can do it myself”attitude is not only unacceptable, it is also a serious offense against God!

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags…” Isaiah 64:6

BLOOD REDEMPTION – At this point you might be thinking: “I still can’t believe thateternal life is free. How can I obtain something so wonderful for free? There’s nosuch thing as free!” If you feel this way, you are right! The truth is, eternal life doescost something, but it is so valuable that no person could ever afford it on their own. That is why God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth inhim should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Because Jesus is God’s Son, His death alone is powerful enough to pay for the sins ofthe entire human race and satisfy God’s wrath against sinners. This is great news forsinners! That is why Christians often speak of the “Gospel of Jesus Christ.” The wordgospel means “good news.”

“…the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shallnot see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” John 3:36

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord JesusChrist:”Romans 5:1

IT’S YOUR DECISION – Let’s review what we’ve learned from God’s Word (the Bible). As you review these truths, make mental check marks beside the statements youagree with.

I admit to myself, and to God, that I am sinful and unable to please God by my own righteousness.

Page 4: The Romans Road to Salvation

I acknowledge that Jesus Christ is God’s perfect and righteous Son, and by His death on the cross all mysins have been paid for.

I accept Jesus Christ’s righteousness so that I can stand blameless in God’s sight and be worthy to enterthe kingdom of Heaven after I die.

I repent of my sins, I realize that sin is something that God hates and I no longer want to hold onto sinfulhabits in my life.

Even though we are saved by faith in Christ and not by our good deeds, it isnecessary to repent of our sins. As we separate from sin, we show gratitude to Godfor our free salvation, and we show those around us that a wonderful change hasoccurred in our lives!

You have come to the place in your life where you must make a decision. If youchoose to accept the payment made by the Lord Jesus Christ for your sin, then yousimply need to bow your head and pray. Tell Jesus, in your own words, that you aresorry for your sins and that you no longer want to remain spiritually separated fromGod. Ask Jesus to forgive you and save you from God’s wrath. Ask Jesus to forgiveyou and save you from death and eternal punishment. Tell Him you are willing toreceive Him as your Lord and Saviour. Let Him know you want to accept His gift ofeternal life. And remember, Jesus Christ won’t turn anyone away, no matter who youare or what you’ve done. He died so that you could know God as your heavenlyFather.

“…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2
