• Advised Consuls and passed laws.• Controlled the state finances ( the money )! • Originally had 300 members from Patrician

families, later included wealthy Plebeians..

• Represented the democratic element of the Roman Republic.

• Tribal Assembly was run by the Plebeians.• Elected tribunes could Veto, or reject proposed

actions of laws of other branches.• Centuriate Assembly gave votes to members based

on how military equipment they could provide.
