FROM THE DESK OF FATHER RAY:I will be returning on Sunday evening January 20th. A note of thanks to Fr. Lamica as he so graciously helps us out during my absence.

Creating a culture of vocation…HOW WOULD YOU REACT if your son said he wants to be a priest?a. I would ask him if he's gone mad, and I would remind him that we must take into consideration what others might think.b. I would ask him to give it considerable thought and to have a university degree first.c. It would give me one of the greatest joys of my life, and I would support him fully.

Thisprogram is for the new-ly separated & divorced &those still struggling with is-sues many years later. Itwill help find answers to their questions, restorehope, and begin authentic healing. The twelveweek program begins on January 25thfrom 6:30 to 8:30pm at St. Mary’s Church in Cantonand will meet weekly in the sacristy. RESPECT FOR LIFE COLLECTION

The Diocese of Ogdensburg Respect Life Sec-ondCollection will be held in our parishes next weekend, January 28th,commemorating the anniversary of the Su-preme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision of 1973 whichlegalized abortion in our nation. Please give gener-ously. The purpose of the collection is to support &encourage efforts that affirm & promote therespect of human life from fertilization to naturaldeath. Thanks to the generosity of North CountryParishioners, last year’s collection provided 21grants. It is important to note that your donations help in so many ways to give the gift of counsel to so many families who feel there is no place to turn. The alternatives to abortion are many and our do-nations assist in the training of counselors who ultimately provide these alternatives to those family members.

In his message on World Day of Peace 2018 Pope Frances names ‘environmental degradation’ asone of the factors contributing to the tragic increasein numbers of migrants and refugees fleeing for their lives. SERVANTS OF MARY125 DAYS OF PRAYER This year, 2018, the Servants of Mary are celebrating 125 years of compassionate presence and ministry in the United States. An important part of our history has in-volved Sr. Lucille Beaulieu, OSM, ministering in your parish. We wish to honor this history and our spiritual connection with you by offering 125 Days of Prayer for you, Special Servite Feast Days will honor the beginning and close of these days of prayer. Between February 16th and June 20th, we invite you to email your intentions to us at: [email protected] or mail them to: Servants of Mary 125 Days of Prayer, 7400 Military Avenue, Omaha, NE 68134. We will collect your intentions and place them in a large prayer bowl situated near the altar in our Motherhouse chapel. Our sisters will pray for your individual intentions and a special petition for all intentions will be read at each Motherhouse liturgy. A note from Sr. Lucille, OSM… I have many fond memories of working among the people of the North Country. I truly miss the “High5’s” before or after the Masses. I still say the Prayer of St. Francis for Peace each day as I promised you. We hope you will honor us by en-trusting your intentions to us during these 125 Days of Prayer.

LIVE THE LITURGY

Jesus proclaims today the Gospel of God: "This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel." Jesus challenges us to accept a change of heart, to start believing and thinking differently. The Gospel asks us to take the focus off ourselves and away from selfconcern, and place it on our brothers and sisters, especially those most broken and in need, and on our environment. We are called to be stewards of all God has created. This means that we are also called to work on God's behalf ensuring that all that God created and all who God created is cared for and protected.

ANNUAL FLU PRECAUTION

It is that time of the year that we guard against influenza and other communicable diseases. As in the past please adopt the following precautionary measures: That you should not share the sign of peace or drink from the com-munion cup if feeling ill (which means for Extraordinary Ministers of Communion that they not assist with Holy Communion when ill). It is recommended that parishion-ers receive Communion in the hand. Communion on the tongue does present hygienic problems during flu season.
