Question

1. Why did Luxembourg found a

University?

Erna Hennicot-

Schoepges,

former Higher

Education Minister

First we had the steel industry, then

the financial place and satellite

company, and now we face the

question of what possibilities are

there for the knowledge society in

the 21st century…

Vision

Erna Hennicot-

Schoepges,

former Higher

Education Minister

…I think Luxembourg must not miss

its opportunities in the fields of

research.

However, when one says research,

one also needs a university that can

serve as a locomotive for the

industrial development of the

country.

Vision

Founded in 2003

Approx. 6000 studentsfrom 100 countries

thereof 400 PhD-students

Problem:

Due to the low stability

of this prostheses,

fracture occurs in many

cases.

Reinforcement of antibiotic loaded hip interims-

prosthesis

CHL, Universitätsklinik Homburg/Saar, TU Kaiserslautern

Thielen & Maas, Waldmann, Zürbes (2006-2009)

To treat a local infection

at the hip joint, so-called

hip interims-prostheses

are used.

These prostheses are

consisting of acrylic

glass, containing anti-

biotics to medicate the

infect.

Develop a more mechanically stable

interims-prostheses to avoid fracture after

interim-implentation
