Mission Sunday and Our Support for Melvin Davis and Clayton Guzman
At the present time Melvin Davis and Clayton Guzman are the only missionaries that we are supporting full-time. Luther Savage was the first missionary we sup-ported in Belize. Brother Savage wanted to work in a mis-sion field where the New Testament Gospel had not gone in its purity. While there he baptized 6 adults. Archibald Sheran was the first one to be baptized and his last con-vert was Melvin Davis. Six years later he began his work as the full time minister for the Belize City Church of Christ. Brother Melvin was one of the men who shared the preaching duties in the early years in Belize City and every other week he would travel by bus to Corozal and preach there. Melvin was able to attend the Preston Road School of Preaching in Dallas and graduated in 1981. Fol-lowing graduation he returned to Belize City where he continued preaching full-time for the church there. In addi-tion to his work as an evangelist, Melvin also served as the director of the Hugh Frazier Preaching School in Be-lize City from 2005-2007. Melvin has been very active in the campaigns we have conducted in Belize working with us in door knocking and studying with those individuals who desired a Bible study. He has traveled with us whether we were going to Corozal in the north or Punta Gordo in the south, also al-lowing us the use of his vehicle for that work. Melvin has been diligently working setting up Bible studies for those of us who will be going on our campaign for 2016 in Belize City. Through his efforts some 40-50 people have agreed to study the Bible with us. Clayton Guzman was converted during the cam-paign held in Independence in 2004 and with our support he attended the Jamaican School of Preaching. Upon graduation he returned to begin preaching full time in Corozal where he continues to serve as one of our mis-sionaries to Belize. Clayton and his wife Shannon have six children. Clayton is very enthusiastic in his work and is well known by the people of Corozal. Like Melvin he has been very active in helping us during our campaigns using his van to help transport our group and our luggage wherever we are working. This past year’s campaign in Corozal was very successful due in part to the preparation made be-fore our arrival. Clayton had some 40 plus studies set up for us to conduct. This greatly helped, saving the time we spend knocking on doors and setting up Bible studies and allowing us to use more of our time in teaching. Both Melvin and Clayton are godly men faithful to the Lord and His church. We have been blessed to have such capable men working with us in the country of Be-lize. Your contribution on Mission Sunday is important to our being able to continue supporting these men in such a great work.
