The Responsibility of Our Faith

Today is a day simply to ponder the fact that in

baptism we were claimed by God: Father, Son, and

Holy Spirit. The first reading from Deuteronomy

prompts us to fix in our hearts the truth that God is

the Lord of both heaven and earth and there is no

other god. Saint Paul reminds us that, because we

received the Spirit of adoption in baptism, we are

now children of God. In the Gospel Jesus charges us

with the responsibility to make other disciples. These

realities make today’s solemnity a day of praise,

adoration, and responsibility. It is a fitting day to

thank God for the absolutely free gift of faith that we

were given in baptism. It is also a day to ask God for

strength to take on the responsibility of sharing that

faith with others.

La Responsabilidad de Nuestra Fe

Hoy es un día para reflexionar sobre el hecho de

que en el Bautismo, Dios Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo

nos hizo hijos suyos. La primera lectura del

Deuteronomio nos insta a anclar en nuestro corazón

la verdad de que Dios es el Señor del cielo y de la

tierra y que no hay otro dios. San Pablo nos recuerda

que, al haber recibido el Espíritu de adopción en el

Bautismo, ahora somos hijos de Dios. En el Evangelio

Jesús nos encomienda la responsabilidad de

encontrar más discípulos. Estas realidades hacen de

la solemnidad de hoy un día de alabanza, adoración

y responsabilidad. Es un día apropiado para

agradecerle a Dios el generoso regalo de la fe que

recibimos en el Bautismo. También es un día para

pedirle a Dios fortaleza para asumir la

responsabilidad de compartir esa fe con los demás.

ARRODILLARSE DESPUES DEL CORDERO DE DIOS

El Arzobispo Sample ha decidido que durante la celebración de la Santa Misa, después del Cordero de Dios, los fieles se arrodillarán. La actual Instrucción

General del Misal Romano (IGMR) establece bajo la sección correspondiente a Gestos y Posturas Corporales que: “Los fieles se arrodillan después del Agnus Dei (Cordero de Dios) a menos que el Obispo diocesano decida lo contrario. [43] Anteriormente, la Arquidiócesis había dado la instrucción de que los fieles permanecieran de pie después del Cordero de Dios. [Instrucción General del Misal Romano, 2000 Revisiones y Adaptaciones para la Arquidiócesis de Portland en Oregon.] El Arzobispo Sample ha decidido que una celebración de la Eucaristía más reverente será asistida por un cambio en esta postura corporal. El ponerse de rodillas es una postura de adoración y ha sido parte del Rito de la Comunión por muchos siglos. Al arrodillarse después del Cordero de Dios, los fieles se preparan para el momento en el que el sacerdote les presenta el Cordero Sacrificado [Ecce Agnus Dei - Mirad al Cordero de Dios]. Esta postura de adoración es más apropiada antes de la recepción de la Santa Comunión. Después del Cordero de Dios los fieles deberán permanecer de rodillas hasta que se muevan de sus lugares para recibir la Santa Comunión. La tradición de permanecer arrodillados después de la recepción de la Santa Comunión hasta que el sacerdote haya regresado a su asiento debe ser elogiada. Aquellos que no puedan arrodillarse debido a alguna enfermedad o impedimento, deben estar sentados de modo que no impidan la visibilidad de aquellos que se arrodillen. Este cambio nos unirá con la Iglesia Universal, con la mayoría de las Diócesis en los Estados Unidos y por supuesto con la otra diócesis en el Estado de Oregon. Con mayor importancia, el Arzobispo Sample cree que esto aumentará la participación reverente de los fieles en la Santa Misa y aumentará su devoción a la Santa Eucaristía. Aquí en San Alejandro, este cambio se hará efectivo a partir de todas las Misas del 10 de junio.

KNEELING AFTER THE LAMB OF GOD

Archbishop Sample has determined that during the celebration of Holy Mass, after the Lamb of God, the faithful will kneel. This change will unite us with the Universal Church, the majority of the Dioceses in the United States and the other diocese (Baker) in the State of Oregon. More importantly, it will aid in the reverent participation of the Holy Mass and increase our devotion to the Holy Eucharist. The current General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) states under the section regarding Movement and Pos-tures that: “The faithful kneel after the Agnus Dei unless the diocesan Bishop determines other-wise.” [43] Previously, the Archdiocese had instructed that the faithful remain standing after the Lamb of God. [The General Instruction on the Roman Missal, 2000 Revisions and Adaptations for the Archdio-cese of Portland in Oregon.] After the Lamb of God, the faithful should remain kneeling until they move

from their place to receive Holy Communion. The tradition of remaining kneeling after the reception of Holy Communion until the priest has returned to his seat is to be commended. Those who cannot kneel due to infirmity or other impediment should be seated so as to not impede the view of those who kneel. We will im-plement this here at St. Alexander on the weekend of JUNE 10TH.
