Dear Friends,

As we reflect back on a year of tremendous growth, we want to take a moment to share how grateful we are to each of you for your support and generosity. From the growth in size of our Fellow community, to the performance and dedi-cation of our extraordinary volunteers, to the innovations we are bringing to the social sector, we are creating an important place for Resolution as a leader in the space of social entrepreneurship and youth leadership development — none of which would be possible without friends like you. We are truly honored to share with you some highlights from 2013. We want to celebrate these successes, and call special attention to our generous donors and tireless volunteers, who inspire our Fellows and each other. Our various volunteer boards provide tens of thousands of hours of services and support, and our partners, sponsors, and supporters, ensure Resolution can continue to reach budding innovators through their financial and in-kind contributions. On behalf of our global community, thank you for all that you have done, and for all that we hope you will continue to do with Resolution. Your support impacts the lives of thousands, and we are sincerely honored by your dedication to our mission.

Fellows Casi and Ishani signed up more than 300 students for GrowLanka, their mobile job alert sys-tem, giving employers a direct line to job-seekers.

ISHANI: “Having a network and community of support outside of…(our school)…has been incredibly helpful overall and a great experience for young social entrepreneurs like ourselves who hope to continue this workafter graduation.”

Page 6: The Resolution Project 2013 Annual Report

We inspire young leaders through our proven model of Social Venture Challenges (SVCs) and Fellowships:

5

We build close relationships with existing youth conferences that serve broad communities of university-aged young leaders.

These youth summits include the Clinton Global Initiative University, the Youth Assembly at the United Nations, Harvard World Model United Nations, Harvard University’s Igniting Innovation Summit, and The Earth Summit at Columbia University.

We invite the young leaders attending our host conferences to propose impactful ventures in a mul-ti-stage competition – the SVC.

The SVC functions as a program at each of our partner conferences and provides a pathway to action for their attendees. The SVC combines web-based submissions, live rounds of presentations, and due diligence to provide an effective selection model.

At the end of each SVC, we award Resolution Fellowships to those individuals with the most compelling proposals and promising personal leadership characteristics.

We provide our Fellows with dynamic, hands-on support to help them implement their ventures, seed funding, and membership in a global community of inspiring peers – a complete ecosystem for a young social entrepreneur.

FELLOW SPOTLIGHTSYangmali - Yang-Ward Foundation

How We Help:

Sahadev Yangmali Rai works closely with his two Reso-

lution Guides, G. Owen Cadwalader and Alyssa Fred-

erick, on the planning and execution of his Venture.

Owen is a geochemist for Geosyntec Consultants and

has expertise in controlling and optimizing environ-

mental infrastructure in water supply wells, dams, and

remediation systems. Alyssa is an attorney with Wilson

Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Owen and Alyssa provide

vital insight, resources, feedback and guidance to

Yangmali, assisting him through the challenges of ir-

rigating the land, budgeting, and managing the reve-

nue-sharing element of the Venture. They have also

worked with Yangmali on various fellowship and gradu-

ate school applications, including an application to

The Unreasonable Institute Fellowship, where Resolu-

tion was able to fast-track his application through our

Pathway Partnership program.

The Issue and His Resolution:

The decade-long Nepalese civil war resulted in cata-

strophic loss of life, the destruction of local infrastruc-

ture, and the disruption of many rural development

activities. Even after the ceasefire, there were few op-

portunities for those living in rural villages, such as

Bhojpur, to earn a decent wage.

Hearing these stories from classmates, Yangmali be-

came determined to make a difference. His Venture,

The Yang-Ward Foundation, was conceived to provide

economic opportunities to women living in Bhojpur by

engaging them in the revenue-generating cash crop

production of chilies, onions, greens, and other na-

tive vegetables. The women are provided with seeds,

technical support, and access to affordable, fertile

land, while the profits generated from the crops go di-

rectly to the women and their families, and the profits

from the land is used to improve local schools. Em-

powered through the Yang-Ward Foundation, these

women are currently earning more than twice the av-

erage wage in Bhojpur, and are planning to re-invest

additional profit into the construction of a new library.

13

About the Fellow:

Sahadev Yangmali Rai is a student at Westmin-

ster College in Missouri and is the founder of the

Venture, the Yang-Ward Foundation. Yangmali

grew up in Nepal, where he was greatly moved by

his fellow students’ experiences with the Nepa-

lese civil war.

14

About the Fellows:

Bonnie Chiu and Michael Ng are Global Busi-

ness majors at the Chinese University of Hong

Kong, and are the founders of the Venture

LENSational.

The Issue and Their Resolution:

During various trips abroad, Bonnie witnessed the

oppression of women, and the muffling of women’s

voices by various cultural, economic, or religious

forces. Women were often marginalized or stigma-

tized, and rarely given the opportunity to express

themselves. She also noticed how photography

can overcome this barrier and empower women

emotionally and economically. Michael shares

Bonnie’s passion for photography and international

development, and her belief that photography can

affect positive change in the lives of underprivi-

leged women. Together, they created LENSational,

which is founded on the principle that giving a cam-

era and some minimal training to underprivileged

women all around the world, starting in Hong Kong,

provides an arena for self-expression and the op-

portunity to share their perspectives, literally. By

capturing these photos and (1) running exhibitions

in public spaces and (2) selling postcards and other

merchandise, LENSational is giving these women a

voice and an artistic outlet.

How We Help:

In their work on LENSational, as well as their per-

sonal and professional journeys, Bonnie and Mi-

chael have the support of their Resolution Guides,

Kelsey Overby and Gabe Nadel. Kelsey is the Direc-

tor of Events for Resolution, and an Account Execu-

tive at MRY. Gabe is an associate at 3i Group plc.

Within the first few months, Kelsey and Gabe provid-

ed invaluable support to Bonnie and Michael while

guiding them through the challenges of setting up

crowdfunding platforms, maintaining their website,

and organizing their first gallery exhibit. Moreover,

they successfully connected Bonnie and Michael

with relevant subject matter experts on profit shar-

ing, revenue generation, and legal structures in

Hong Kong, to help the Fellows navigate the waters

of organizational incorporation.

FELLOW SPOTLIGHTSDerrius - Million Dollar Scholar

About the Fellow:

Raised in the Illinois foster care system and the south side of Chicago, Derrius Quarles became adept at overcoming obsta-

cles at an early age. Motivated to become the first in his family to attend college he diligently pursued grants, scholarships,

and financial aid. He was ultimately awarded over $1.1 million, including receiving the Gates Millennium, Horatio Alger, Coca-

Cola, Dell, Chicago Scholars, Nordstrom, Elks, and Benjamin A. Gilman scholarships. With this aid, he was able to attend

Morehouse College, and recently graduated with a degree in Sociology with minors in Biology and Public Health.

The Issue and His Resolution:

Frustrated by the economic burden associated with attending college, and determined to help level the playing field for un-

derprivileged students like himself, Derrius decided to create Million Dollar Scholar, a social Venture that assists other high

school and college students navigate the challenges of paying for higher education. Million Dollar Scholar provides parents/

guardians, high school and college students, and educational/NGO administrators with branded scholarship education prod-

ucts and services. Thus far, Million Dollar Scholar has helped students gain over $1.3 million dollars in scholarships and

grants for their education and to reduce debt.

How We Help:

Derrius works closely with his two Guides, Oliver Libby and Tom Pryor, and Resolution Advisory Board Member, Michael

Blaustein, on the strategic planning and implementation of Million Dollar Scholar. Oliver is a co-founder of Resolution, cur-

rently our Chair of the Board of Directors, and a Managing Director at Hatzimemos Partners LLC. Tom is an MBA Candidate

at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. Michael is the Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Education of New

Jersey. Together, Oliver, Tom, and Michael have helped Derrius navigate the murky waters of business modelling, network-

ing, fundraising strategy, and goal setting. They have supported Derrius on a number of Pathway Partnership opportunities,

including Echoing Green and Unreasonable Institute Fellowships - providing in-depth feedback on his proposals and helping

him practice his pitches. Additionally, they have provided Derrius with personal support, including writing graduate school

recommendations and helping him figure out his next steps, academically and professionally.

16

About the Fellows:

Wang Junsong, Liu Kaini, and Sun Hejing are the co-

founders of the social Venture Care for Empty Nesters. All

three young women are undergraduate students in China

and were deeply affected by the struggles of their elderly

relatives and neighbors.

The Issue and their Resolution:

As Chinese culture has changed, more and more fami-

lies are moving into single-family homes, leaving behind

the custom of multiple generations living under one roof.

This has been incredibly hard on older generations in Chi-

na, with many elderly individuals now living alone for the

first time in their lives. Wang, Liu, and Sun decided to ad-

dress this isolation and loneliness by creating a volunteer

program at their schools through which students spend

time with elders in their community. Thus far, students

involved in Care for Empty Nesters have visited over 100

elderly in their communities, providing companionship,

joy, and much-needed support.

How We Help:

In their Venture and on their personal and profession-

al journeys, Wang Junsong, Liu Kaini, and Sun Hejing

have the support of their Guides, Holly Orsburn and

Athena Katsampes. Holly is a Sales Associate at J.P.

Morgan Securities and Athena is a Business Develop-

ment Associate at MeeGenuis; she holds a BA in Eco-

nomics from Harvard University and spent a summer

studying Mandarin in Beijing. Holly and Athena use

their knowledge of Mandarin and Chinese culture to

provide support and advice on volunteer management

and retention and program expansion. They also help

Wang, Liu, and Sun balance the demands of their aca-

demics while still moving the Venture forward.

FELLOW SPOTLIGHTSHussein - Community Led Total Sanitation

The Issue and His Resolution:

Combining his knowledge of public health and com-

munity-led programs, Hussein decided to bring exist-

ing Water Sanitation and Health (WASH) kits to inter-

nally displaced persons camps in Northern Somalia,

where dysentery and other water-carried diseases are

rampant. Since females are often responsible for the

cooking and washing in the camps, Hussein is work-

ing with female team members to train local women

leaders on the use of the kits. In addition to public

health benefits associated with these kits, this is also

empowering local women in the camps to combat dis-

ease and spread education awareness.

How We Help:

Hussein works closely with his Guides, Danielle

Gram and Victoria Lakers. Danielle is an Associate

in Practice Management at Axiom Law. Victoria is

Director of Marketing at Water Asset Management,

LLC. Danielle and Victoria have provided Hussein

with guidance on diverse topics from fundraising to

communications. This winter, Hussein also worked

with Resolution’s Development and Design teams to

create a video and crowdfunding campaign to raise

funding for those affected by the tropical cyclone in

Somalia and Puntland in November.

About the Fellow:

Hussein Hassan is a public health professional in

Northern Somalia (Somaliland and Puntland). Hus-

sein has worked with different international organiza-

tions and United Nations (UN) agencies in Somalia,

giving him a unique experience and skills in mobilizing

resources for sustainable and community-led activities.

Page 19: The Resolution Project 2013 Annual Report

18

About the Fellows:

Sarah Cox, Katie Guidera, and Molly Simon are the co-

founders of the social Venture One Sun Health. These

three young women met while studying abroad in South

Africa, and decided to work together to help end malaria

once they returned home to their U.S. universities.

The Issue and their Resolution:

Prior to winning Resolution Fellowships, Sarah, Katie,

and Molly ran a successful malaria awareness educa-

tion program for villagers in Hamakuya, South Africa. As

they wrapped up that project, the Fellows realized that

though the participants were excited to have learned so

much, they had limited access to the mosquito nets that

could keep them and their families safe. With Resolu-

tion’s support, Sarah returned to South Africa in the fall

to provide pathways toward economic empowerment for

local women by starting bed net businesses. Sarah and

her team held a week-long intensive sewing training for

women, who produced 30 mosquito bed nets within a few

weeks of completing the course. 10 nets have been sold

to clients in the surrounding area, helping to decrease in-

cidences of malaria in rural South African communities.

How We Help:

Sarah, Katie, and Molly are supported by Guides Temitayo

Ifafore and Alyssa Boggs. Temitayo is the Health Workforce

Technical Advisor at USAID operating out of the Office of

Population and Reproductive Health; she has an MPH in

Health Management from the University of Michigan School

of Public Health and a BA in Socio-Cultural Anthropology

from Yale University; she has done public health work in

Panama and Ethiopia. Alyssa is a Senior Coordinator in

Channel Development at Starbucks Corporate in Seattle;

she is an MSc candidate at the London School of Econom-

ics in Conflict Studies, and earned a BA from University of

Washington in Politics and International Studies. Temitayo

and Alyssa use their extensive public health and interna-

tional development experience to help Sarah, Katie, and

Molly navigate the work in South Africa without frequently

being on the ground. They have spent a lot of energy help-

ing Sarah and Molly, recent college graduates, navigate the

next step of their careers, and helping Katie manage her

last year of undergraduate studies while maintaining their

high quality work on One Sun Health. All three Fellows have

attended Resolution events, enabling them to find exciting

job opportunities and connections through Resolution’s

wide network. Resolution has also secured pro-bono brand-

ing support for the Fellows from Group 113, who helped

them rebrand the Malaria Awareness Program as One Sun

Health, complete with a new logo and website.

The Resolution Project relies on a global network of sponsors and allies to support our work fostering the next generation of socially-responsible entrepreneurs. These corporations and organizations share our commitment to youth leadership development and innovative entrepreneurship. In 2013, we launched new multifaceted partnerships with the following companies that have made a philanthropic investment – of money, time, and talent – in support of our efforts to provide up-and-coming undergraduate entrepreneurs with the tools and resources they need to succeed. Their commitment and investments enable Resolution to provide professional mentorship, in-depth training, and unique opportunities to our community of young leaders.

In 2013, Resolution was honored to be selected as the inaugural Global Partner for the Axiom Engage initiative. Axiom is a globally-recognized leader in the legal field, serving more than half of the Fortune 100 roster, with a dedication to innovation, collaboration and excellence. Through this partnership, Resolution is able to leverage the talented and highly-skilled network of Axiom employ-ees to provide critical legal support, resources, and ser-vices to our global network of Fellows.

Axiomites around the world are serving as mentors to our Fellows, spokespeople for our mission, and support-ers of social entrepreneurship. Whether guiding a Fellow through contract negotiations or shepherding a team through the process of becoming a registered charitable organization, the team members at Axiom are rolling up their sleeves to support Resolution Fellows in their efforts to improve the world around them, and we are thrilled to have them as part of the Resolution community.

In 2013, Resolution launched a global partnership with DuPont, representing our largest corporate partnership to date. DuPont will provide funding to support Resolu-tion’s Fellowship offerings and seed funding for Ven-tures, access to scientific and technical subject matter experts, and volunteer mentors from its expert profes-sional ranks to assist in identifying, training, and sup-porting undergraduates addressing crucial challenges around the world.

The partnership will focus on four areas of key impor-tance: feeding the world, improving energy systems and supply, protecting people and the environment, and promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education.

In partnership with the team at General Electric, the joint SEED (Social Entrepreneurship Education and Devel-opment) initiative was launched to solve pressing global challenges by uniting General Electric’s know-how and tal-ent development, with the socially responsible entrepre-neurship of Resolution Fellows. This initiative is pairing GE professionals with Resolution Fellows to provide real world insight, in-country support, and technical expertise to our budding entrepreneurs, while simultaneously providing a rewarding and collaborative volunteering opportunity to interested GE team members.

Beginning with pairing teams and personnel based in the Asia-Pacific region, we look forward to building on this partnership in the coming years to provide this unique opportunity to a growing number of Fellows and GE team members in other regions. GE team members will also be supporting the development of the Resolu-tion Entrepreneurship Curriculum and contributing to content development and the development of the plat-form for deployment. As such, the SEED program is pro-viding hands-on mentorship, advice about local issues, and overall organizational support that allow us to better serve our growing network of Fellows.

In 2013, Resolution partnered with the world’s largest membership-based network for professional learning and expertise, the Gerson Lehrman Group, to facili-tate targeted connections between Resolution Fellows and the GLG network of more than 400,000 experts.

Through this relationship, Resolution Fellows are receiv-ing targeted advice and guidance from GLG’s extensive network of academics, scientists, industry practitioners, and other professionals worldwide to help enhance and accelerate their impact. Complementing our own our own network of Guides, volunteers, and advisors, GLG is an invaluable source of centralized, high-level experts that are providing insight to Resolution Fellows around the world.

COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITY

In addition to the mentorship and advisory

resources the Fellows received from their Guides

and our network of Subject Matter Experts, In

2013, we successfully hosted our first in-person

collaboration session to encourage interaction

and knowledge sharing between Resolution

Fellows. We piloted the activity with nine

Fellows in attendance at the Resolve gala. The

theme of the exercise was community outreach

and engagement, and Fellows in attendance

discussed and practiced making pitches to

various audiences, and brainstormed ways to

keep volunteers engaged. In addition to gaining

valuable skills and sharing experiences, the

pilot activity provided a fantastic opportunity for

Fellows to learn from each other and lend support

in a collaborative environment.

POST-VENTURE FELLOWS

As many of our Fellows graduate from college and move on to graduate school or

professional careers, there are growing numbers who are now what we would classify as

post-Venture Fellows. Post-Venture means that they are no longer actively involved in the

day-to-day operations of their social Ventures. For some, their Ventures have completed

their objectives and are concluded; for others, they have transitioned the leadership of

their Venture to other students or local community members. While their involvement

with their Ventures has ended, their journey with Resolution is far from over.

A few of these post-Venture Fellows have decided to take their involvement with

Resolution one step further, and have volunteered as Resolution Leadership Council

members and as Guides to other Fellows. For example, Nick Fiore, a Fellow from Class

1, is now a Resolution Leadership Council Member working on the Fellow Resource

and Entrepreneurship Curriculum Working Groups. Nick is also a Guide to Fellows

Liana Rosenman, Kristina Saffran, and Ashley Tritt on their social Venture Project HEAL

Family Network. Alex Merkovic-Orenstein, Nick’s co-founder on the social Venture IT

Empowerment, is also a Guide. Alex is currently living and working in Kenya, and will be

matched with an African-based Fellow who can benefit from his expertise in agriculture

and technology. The third Resolution Fellow turned Guide is Dan Cahill. Dan is a Fellow

from Class 2, and is a Guide to Mike Pereira, Founder of the social Venture Pathfinder

Initiative. Nick, Alex, and Dan are true testaments to the value of the Resolution

Fellowship and community, and to the core assumption that a successful social Venture,

even if concluded, influences the growth of a young leader and resonates through their

continued involvement in Resolution’s global community.

“The team at Resolution accomplish their impressive and lofty goals not only through grants provided to student fellows who earn financial support after demonstrating the importance and viability of their socially directed entrepreneurial pursuits, but also by connecting these young leaders to an impressive network of volunteer Guides who share their passion for change in the world.”

In Newsday

“So Resolution draws from a pool of able young people already committed to understanding and working with colleagues from other countries. It is the young people with their dreams and drive that power the projects...Lamia and Taylor are from different countries and have different backgrounds. But they share a vision, a generation, an impressive measure of confidence and determination, and a project...A little reso-lution may go a long way.”

Leadership Council Director Travis Batty and Guide Jasmine Mitchell

Board Member Geraldine Acuna Sunshine and Advisory Board Member Denielle Sachs

Board of Directors

GERALDINE ACUNA SUNSHINE: Since her very first involvement in Resolution, Geraldine has been a leader in the organization. As a longstanding Board Member, and one of Resolution’s most ardent supporters, Geraldine, along with her husband Gabe, have volunteered to judge several SVCs and provided critical support to Resolution’s growth. Geraldine also founded Harvard World Model United Nations while an undergraduate — her very own social venture and Resolution’s first and longest-running host conference! DANIEL F. TERRY, JR.: Dan joined the Board in 2013 and immediately took a leadership role, guiding organizational thinking around personnel structures and how we use technology. Dan has been a generous supporter, attending SVCs and sponsoring events.

Advisory Board

MICHAEL BLAUSTEIN: Michael joined Resolution as an Advisory Board member in 2013, bringing years of experience in consulting, venture capital, education, and social enterprise. From his sage advice to Resolution Board members to his enthusiasm about Resolution Fellows, his contributions were felt immediately. Michael became the first member of the Advisory Board to join the Resolution Guides, when his ad hoc mentorship of Resolution Fellow Derrius Quarles turned into a long-term partnership with Derrius’ current Guide team. DENIELLE SACHS: Bringing her diverse skill set and broad network to bear for Resolution, Denielle is a vocal supporter of entrepreneurship and youth leadership development. Her targeted advice and mentorship has proven invaluable to Fellow teams and Resolution.

Leadership Council Directors/Leads/Team Members

TRAVIS BATTY: Travis was one of the very first volunteers to dedicate time to Resolution, and was a founding member of the Leadership Council. As Director of the Legal Working Group, Travis gives of his time and expertise to help Resolution and its Fellows in navigating legal issues, and to identify resources who can assist the organization and its Fellows in navigating legal issues. He and his wife, Jasmine (who is a Guide), have been avid supporters of Resolution for a long time, attending our very first Resolve gala in 2010

HELEN GOLDBERG: New to the Resolution team in 2013, Helen’s stellar performance and outstanding leadership led to her becoming the Director of Resolution’s Impact Evaluation Working Group only a few months after her initial onboarding as a volunteer. She is deeply committed to streamlining and improving Resolution’s measurement and evaluation systems and contributes time and energy to ensuring our success as an organization.

SARA NADEL:As Director of the Entrepreneurship Curriculum Working Group, Sara has led the charge on pulling together materials and module resources for the entrepreneurship curriculum to continue expanding the depth and breadth of resources we provide to our Fellows. Her tireless dedication as a Director and Guide is all the more impressive given she does all of this from her home in Peru! SARAH EVANS: Providing much needed support to our extremely busy Design Working Group, Sarah brings a fresh perspective and remarkable talent to Resolution’s event collateral, materials, and overall visual vocabulary. Her unique style and energetic attitude work to captivate and inspire growing audiences of Resolution supporters, volunteers, and donors.

MOLLY MAHONEY:Molly’s impact has been felt throughout Resolution, from helping design the new Guide recruiting process, to recruiting several terrific members of the Resolve 2013 Gala Host Committee, to helping craft the concept for Resolution’s Young Leaders Now Award.

Page 38: The Resolution Project 2013 Annual Report

JP JACQUET: One of the newer members of the Resolution Leadership Council, JP brings a wealth of education experience to the table, and contributes regularly to the Entrepreneurship Curriculum and Fellow Resources Working Groups. His incredible organization skills and unwavering engagement to both groups, in addition to his role as a Guide, are crucial to the sustainable scaling of Resolution’s programmatic activities.

DANIELLE GRAM:Danielle came to Resolution as a true example of a young social entrepreneur herself, having founded a successful non-profit, Kids for Peace, as a high school student. She joined Resolution as a Guide to Fellow Hussein Hassan and has spearheaded a wonderful global partnership with Axiom, the international legal services company, which continues to serve many of our Fellows and Resolution. GARY LEUIS: As a Guide, Guide Leader, and Director of the Guide Program Working Group, Gary serves triple duty in promoting and growing Resolution. This year he worked incredibly hard to put together a structure to streamline the Guide application process, and worked to make the Guide program sustainable and scalable. MELISSA MAYERS: As a Guide, member of the Leadership Council Directorate, and one of our most involved volunteers, Melissa sets an extremely high standard for engagement with Resolution. As one of our original Guide Leaders, Melissa pioneered the concept of veteran volunteers mentoring our Guides and helping provide a higher level of service and support to our Fellows. At every level, Melissa is an inspiration and example of the immense contribution and impact volunteers have on Resolution’s mission. LAURA VICKERS: Laura serves as a Guide Leader to the largest cohort of Resolution Fellows in the history of the organization, and uses her incredible communication and organization skills to coordinate more than 15 Guide/Fellow teams — spanning countries and continents. Her attention to detail and commitment to the Fellows is truly inspiring, and we are lucky to have her!

GUIDE PROGRAM LAUNCH AND OVERALL TEAM GROWTH UPDATE

2013 marked the official launch of the Resolution Guide Program, a systematic effort to identify, in-

terview, train, match, and support the people working most closely with our Resolution Fellows. This

year, Resolution brought on dozens of new Guides from around the world to support our Resolution

Fellow community, growing our mentor pool to nearly 100 talented and engaged Guides.

Between the Director of the Guide Program, Gary Leuis, and Guide Leaders Bianca Caban, Bob Ham-

lin, Melissa Mayers, and Laura Vickers, Resolution Guides have a support system to assist them in

every step of their Resolution journey.

An expanded Guide Training and resource-sharing effort have ensured that Guides are fully prepared

to help Fellows with their Ventures, and their personal and professional challenges. These new re-

sources have also created dialogue about the role and challenges facing our Fellows. The addition of

Guide Leaders assigned to each Guide team has given Guides a valuable veteran volunteer to ask for

advice when dealing with tough issues and challenges facing the Fellows. Guide Leaders have helped

Guides understand complicated team dynamics and how to support Fellows during difficult personal

situations, while also creating a community of mentors that shares best practices and tips for work-

ing with a high-achieving group of young leaders. Resolution is thrilled to have successfully launched

the Guide program in 2013, and looks forward to adding even more resources in the years ahead, so

Guides can continue to effectively support our community of Fellows.

LAUNCH OF THE DIRECTORATE

As part of our organizational expansion, 2013 wit-

nessed the launch of the Resolution Leadership Coun-

cil Directorate – a team of highly-engaged Leadership

Council Members who serve as Directors of various

Working Groups and as Guide Leaders to our expand-

ing cohort of Guides. The Directors lead and manage

the work assigned to our various Working Groups, in-

cluding Events, Design, Development, Impact Evalu-

ation, and Fellow Resources, among others, while

Guide Leaders mentor and manage teams of Guides

associated with specific Resolution Social Venture

Challenges. The Directorate meets once per month

with Resolution Board Members and staff to provide

relevant updates on their individual workstreams and

issue any urgent calls to action. Allowing Resolution

to operate on a very lean organizational budget, the

Directorate provides crucial leadership and manage-

ment support to Resolution’s volunteers. We are in-

credibly thankful for and inspired by their leadership,

expertise, professionalism, and enthusiasm!

We invited over 600 guests to explore our “World of Sus-tainability” exhibit featuring interactive instal-lations to represent the diverse issue areas in which Fellows are making an impact. Resolve 2013 served as a testament to the positive change Fellows are having in their communi-ties, their schools, and around the world.

RESOLUTION RUNS

9.7.13Central Park, New York

This fall, Resolution launched the Resolution Runs athletic team to provide a fun and inter-active way for Resolution friends, supporters, and volunteers to raise funds and awareness for socially-responsible entrepreneurship. Put-ting together an enthusiastic and engaged team of runners to participate in our inaugural event, the NYRR 4-Miles of Hope, we were able to raise enough money to cover Fellowships for two new Resolution teams! We look forward to building on this momentum in 2014, and are eager to give more young leaders the running start they need to turn ideas into impact. Thank you to all of our runners for their exuberant par-ticipation, and to our friends at KIND snacks for donating some post-race treats. We’ll see you on the road!

SPECIAL THANKS

Jyoti SinghviCouture jewelry designer, Jyoti Singhvi, believes that every person and every organization has a fascinat-ing story which must be honored and celebrated. In 2013, Jyoti spent time with the Resolution team and designed a bespoke pendant to represent the global reach and impact of Resolution’s network of Fellows, volunteers, and ventures. The Catalyst artfully incor-porates different design elements into this spherical pendant to demonstrate the equilibrium and sustain-ability of the entire Resolution ecosystem. The Cata-lyst was launched at Resolve 2013, and all net pro-ceeds from sales of the pendant are donated directly to Resolution.

We are extremely grateful to Jyoti for designing such a unique and beautiful piece to celebrate the work of Resolution. With her help, we are able to continue serving as the catalyst for undergraduate entrepre-neurs around the world.

Delta Air LinesFor the second year in a row, Delta, one of the world’s largest airlines, partnered with The Resolution Project to support our Resolve gala. In addition to a generous financial sponsorship, the team at Delta donated a pair of first-class tickets to Italy, to incentivize gala attendees to make a financial pledge to Resolution. With support from friends like Delta, Resolution con-tinues to award Fellowships to a growing number of aspiring undergraduate entrepreneurs. Together, we are working to ensure our Fellows will Keep Climbing!
