BUILDING HISTORYThe Republic Building was constructed in 1907 by AllenPaul, a local developer. It was designed by Sanguinet &Staats, a firm of architects in Fort Worth, andcharacterizes the Chicago School of commercialarchitecture that was prevalent in the early twentiethcentury. It was originally named the Paul Building, and theP insignia can still be seen on its facade.

Since its completion The Republic Building has providedoffices for many of Houston's most prominent Attorney’s;and around 1910, it was leased to the United StatesDistrict Court. Other important tenants include formerTexas Governor Ross Sterling, The Galveston-DallasNews, the WMCA, Hoffman Oil Company, Turnbow Oiland Refining Company and many more.

On February 12, 1979 The Republic Building wasregistered on The National Register of Historic Places. Itis historically significant not only because of its age andproximity to Houston's original business district, OldMarket Square, but also because of the prominent tenantsit has housed.

With its close proximity and inspiring views of the historicHarris County Courthouse (est. 1910), the RepublicBuilding has become a prestigious location for attorneys.
