Register of hospitals in the UK with eye clinic supportAbout this factsheetThis factsheet lists hospitals in the UK where there is eye clinic support. This support may be an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO), Vision or Patient Support Officer or another form of Early Intervention Support. Hospitals are listed under the relevant country, and in alphabetical order. The type of support is listed after the hospital address and phone number.

What do we mean by Eye Clinic support?This is a service that provides information and advice to people in an eye clinic about services that may be able to support them in their area. This can be an ECLO/Vision Support Officer or similar role, a Helpdesk, or a volunteer service.

What is an ECLO (Eye Clinic Liaison Officer)? An ECLO, works directly with people with low vision, deteriorating vision, sight loss or impending sight loss, and their families, friends and carers. The support is both practical and emotional, and for people of all ages. . They provide timely one to one support and quality information and advice, emotional support and access to other statutory and voluntary services. ECLOs connect people with the practical and emotional support they need to understand their diagnosis, deal with their sight loss and maintain their independence. The ECLO has the time to dedicate to people following their appointment, so they can discuss the impact their condition will have on their life. ECLOs on this register have completed training as specified in the ECLO Quality Framework and Practice Guidelines. Those who have not are called ‘Early Intervention Support Workers’ in this document.
