Backpack Collection Day—July 10th

We will continue to support the children (in need) at Grapevine Elementary by collecting food on the second Sun. of the month. This is food they can take home for the week-end. Items such as: individual bags of chips, cracker, cookies, cheese/peanut butter crackers, snack cakes, cereal bars, juice boxes, plastic fruit cups etc. Items should be ready to eat and require no refrigeration or re-heating and should open easily.

Thanks for your support of this ministry ! A child will have something to eat because of your kindness & generosity!

Episcopal Church Women The Episcopal Churchwomen met on June 15th. This was our last meeting with Rev. Candyce. We had great food and great fellowship. We will miss her but wish her well. Cookbook sales are going well. Please keep in mind these make great gifts for showers, birthdays or even Christmas for only $10. This is a way to preserve a part of St. Mary’s histo-ry & tradition by passing down recipes from one generation to another. Our next meeting will be on July 20th. We will have Com-

pline or Evening prayer at 5:30 pm (instead of Eucharist). Then meeting at 6:00 pm. Hope to see you here! Peace, Gertrude

NAMI Support Group

The next NAMI Meeting will be on Thursday, July 7 from 6-7:30 pm. NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness; a support group for family members of those suffering from mental illness. If you have any questions, you may call Tom Mills at 821-3670.

Daughters of the King

The Daughters of the King will meet on: Wed., July 6 at 6:00 pm.

Food Bank Collection Day—Sun., July 31

We will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Hopkins Co. Food Bank on Sun., July 31st.

Thanks for your continued support!

A Collect for the Election of a Minister

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

41-A Yard Sale Follow-up

First of all thanks to everyone who helped set-up, donated items to sell or clean up afterwards. And also a special thanks to Isaac for heading this up this year. (Anyone who has ever had a yard sale knows just how much work is involved, especially on such a

stifling hot day).

There was over $800 raised. The proceeds from the sale will be designated at the next Vestry meeting.

Caring Corner

From Val Dreusicke & the Burton family…

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of my friends at St. Mary’s for the prayers, beautiful cards, flowers to the funeral home & the very special prayer shawl. You all hold a special place in my heart. From Hannah Miner Myers…

I just wanted to write and thank-you for your continued service and adoration for our community. One hundred years of dedication is such an accomplishment and very appreciated. I was unavailable on your day of recognition, (Peace Festival), yet I wanted to express my thanks for your church. I hope & pray the “red doors” continue to be a place of solice for 100 more years. From Dawn Cagle to her friends from St. Mary’s…

Her new address : 1602 Governors Gate Dr. #1612 Pensacola, FL 32514 From Grapevine Elementary School—Jenny Harris

Thank you for the donation (a $100 check) toward the Grape-vine Elementary Backpack Program. Your support is much appreciated!

Diana Sullivan is still at Baptist Health in rehab after she recently fell and broke her hip. If you could send her cards or note of encour-agement, I’m sure it would brighten her day & lift her spirits. Here is the info:

If you would like to do so you can see one of the ushers before or after the services. Other op-tions are Automatic Withdrawal, (we have the forms for this if interested) or you can access bill pay from your bank acct. online.

From the Editor...

I felt led to write you a note of encouragement for this edition of the Red Doors. I’ve seen some sad and down trodden faces that seem bewildered by the changes at St. Mary’s lately. And speaking for myself … I know change is harder as I get older. It seems the enemy throws all kinds of negative thoughts at us when we are vulnerable… what will become of us (St. Mary’s), how will we manage this or that? However when I reflect back on my life, it is through the difficulties and trials that I’ve developed spiritual strength. So hang in there, don’t give up or give in. We have to believe that the God we serve still has a plan and a purpose for us in this community whether we have a priest or not. Remember the mission statement in the bulletin each week:

Perhaps take this time to think about what this looks like.

What are some creative ways to implement this. The Peace Festival was a great way to show excitement, life, joy etc. to the com-munity as well as all the other things that St. Mary’s does on a regular basis; supports the food bank, feeds the kids of Grapevine, Angel Tree, Seamen’s church, prayer shawls, dona-tions to various ministries each month (both local and na-tional) and the list goes on. I am impressed with what this ‘lil church does on a regular basis. (I’ve worked for larger church-es that aren’t as generous and it makes me proud to be a part of this one).

I close with this advice—don’t draw back and use this transitional time as an excuse not to attend church or to get involved. There is great leadership here but we all need one another for strength and support. Communication is the key to our success. If someone’s in the hospital -let us know, if you get a text or email—respond, have a question—give us a call.

Sincerely, Teresa Jett
