End of Year Celebrations
To celebrate the end of the school year, RPMS
offers both 7th and 8th grade students some
exciting options. The 8th grade dance will be on
May 17 this year and will include a dinner and
dancing. Both grade levels will have field day on
the last day of school. Field day includes outside
activities such as basketball, flag football, and
soccer games. Students will be able to purchase
drinks and snacks while participating in field day.
Field day is coupled with a yearbook signing
party where students can get their friends
signatures and well wishes in their yearbooks.
Students will be able to wear shorts and t-shirts
on field day and should not bring school supplies
that day.
Behavior Requirement – RPMS administration
wishes for all students to participate in the 8th
grade dance and field day (both grades).
However, because of the nature of these
celebrations, only approved students can attend.
Approved students are those students who
have demonstrated appropriate levels of
responsibility. Any student who receives a
referral in the month of May, or who has been
suspended during the 4th term will not be
eligible to attend.

Free College Tuition!!!—21st Century Scholars Program
If your 7th or 8th grade student is income eligible, they may receive up
to four years of undergraduate college tuition in Indiana! The income
guidelines can be found in the link in this article. The students will also
sign a 21st Century pledge that can be found on the application web-
site….The deadline is quickly approaching!!! The applications for this
year are due by June 30th---and can be found on the Warren webpage
or at www.in.gov/ssaci/2380.htm. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity!!
Race to the Top
As you may know, Warren Township was recently awarded a federal Race to the Top grant for more than $28.5 million to be
spent over the next four years! Through three specific Projects, this additional funding will help Warren increase student
achievement, provide greater opportunities for personalized learning, and ensure students’ readiness for post-secondary college
and career opportunities.
Project 1: Personalized Learning Opportunities
Under Project 1, Warren will work with national experts to align our K-12 curriculum to Common Core State Standards. This
new, rigorous curriculum will be supported by an increase in technology used in your student’s school and classroom. Every
student in 1st through 12th grade will have a laptop to use during the school day. Warren is the first school district in Marion
County to provide this opportunity to students! Kindergarten students will also have access to iPads in their classrooms.
High-tech learning environments called Mediaplexes will be constructed at Creston, Raymond Park, and Stonybrook for use
by 5th through 8th grade students. These Mediaplexes will be similar to the one constructed at Warren Central High School last
year, and will be outfitted with computers, document cameras, and distance learning equipment to connect Warren students to
learning opportunities all around the world! At WCHS, approximately 75 classrooms are being renovated to include ceiling
mounted projectors and dry erase walls to encourage creativity and collaboration among students. Additionally, construction is
taking place to make WCHS a completely wireless school!
Project 2: Alternative Pathways to Graduation
Warren recognizes the need to provide our high school students with options for earning required credits for graduation. The
Race to the Top grant will allow us to create opportunities for students at Warren Central to earn credits by completing
coursework online, at their own pace, and on their own time. Warren is also partnering with area businesses to give students
experience in working outside the classroom, and students will be able to train for television and broadcasting careers with an
expanded sports and media production studio!
Project 3: Positive Behavior Support System
Warren will create a system of tiered behavioral interventions called a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
system. Teachers and administrators will receive professional development for PBIS and culturally-responsive instructional
practices. Warren will also create a school-parent initiative for kindergarten through 6th grade families called Parents are the
CORE. Evening workshop activities will be held throughout the year to help unite the school community to promote positive
social, academic, and emotional growth and well-being of our students.
Please contact your student’s principal with any questions you have about the Race to the Top grant or specific projects. More
information will be published in school newsletters and on the district website as we strive to meet our Race to the Top goals!
