The R. Bruce Lindsay Award Recognizing that the Society has grown since the establishment of the
Biennial Award and that there are now many more deserving candidates, the Executive Council voted to change the Biennial Award to an annual award. Obviously the name had to be changed and the new name selected by the Council is the R. Bruce Lindsay Award in honor of the late Editor-in- Chief of the Journal.
The recipient's •tualifications remain unchanged. The R. Bruce Lind- say Award will be presented at Spring meetings of the Society to a member who is under 35 years of age on 1 January of the year of the award and who, during a period of two or more years immediately preceding the award, has been active in the affairs of the Society and has contributed substantially, through published papers, to the advancement of theoretical or applied acoustics, or both. The recipient may choose between a complete bound set of JASA and a check for $100 or a complete set of JASA on microfiche,. a microfiche reader, and a check for $1000.

Special fund to encourage students At the Cleveland meeting, the Executive Council of the Society voted
to solicit contributions for a special fund, the income from which would be used to assist students from regions near meeting sites to attend meetings Of the Society. The initiative for this came upon the receipt of a contribution of $500.00 from a Fellow of the Society, who wishes to remain anonymous.
The money will be sought as follows: The dues billing for 1987 will include the sum of $10.00, labeled as a voluntary contribution. If a member does not wish to make the contribution, the sum of $10.00 may be subtract- ed from the bill and the net amount paid. The voluntary contribution will not appear on bills to Student Members but Emeritus Members will be given an opportunity to contribute.
While waiting for the fund (and income from it) to accumulate, the Executive Council has authorized the expenditure of $1000 to defray the expenses of such students for the Anaheim meeting. Details of the method of assignment of fhnds are still being worked out.
Of course, if any member wishes to contribute more than $10.00, such a gift would be highly appreciated. • ROBERT T. BEYER
