The following letter was left under one of our church doors. We do not know who this delightful Sister in Christ is, but July 4th afternoon she and her dog enjoyed the company of God while finding respite under our pavilion. She was so moved she attached a $20 bill as an offering. We put the money toward the Camp Glisson retreat. Reverend Dee Dee Lawson

Barnabas Groups All Members Needed
A Conference goal for 2016-2017 is for churches in each district to become more connected. One way we will accomplish this is through District Barnabas Groups. Each group is comprised of 8-10 UM churches that are geographically close to each other. Princeton is part of the Oconee Barnabas group. The Senior Pastor and the Lay Leader are the point persons for each church. Our group has
3 church-wide events planned for all members to participate in. Mark your calendars for the first gathering - Prayer Event on Sunday, October 2 (5:00 -
6:30 pm) at Watkinsville 1st UMC.
Each church has a specific prayer topic. Ours is "Upcoming November Elections.". We will present a prayer and a music
offering relating to the topic and we also decorate a table reflecting the subject. If you would like to help, contact Annette Jackson or Rev. Dee Dee.
United Methodist Women are dedicated to service.
During September and October, the focus will be on
collecting cold weather clothes and other items for the
Athens Our Daily Bread program participants. The
items needed this year are:
Gloves Sleeping Bags
Stocking caps Camping equipment (tents)
Jackets for men-all sizes
All women are invited to join the women of UMW at
our next monthly meeting on September 20th at 7 p.m.
The devotion will be provided by Linda Byrd. Carolyn
Dial will provide the annual missions pledge service
for future mission projects of the UMW. The
fellowship, conversations, sharing and laughter will be
provided by those who attend.
Be on the watch for the new “custom designed”
Christmas Cards coming soon. These will be
available for purchase to support missions this
fall. We will also be selling sweets during the
upcoming car show to support mission projects.
Thanks to each individual who is part of the Princeton
United Methodist Church family for their generosity
and support. Janet Valente, President
Golden Age Group
Where will your path take you on Sept. 13 around
11:00 AM? Joseph Conrad, said, "To have his
path made clear for him is the inspiration of every
human being in our beclouded and tempestuous
existence.” Christians have heard of The Prince of
Peace in our tempests and that there is a Light that
lights the path that leads to eternal life. We need
inspiration along the way and Princeton's Golden
Age Group is a good place to be on every 2nd
Tuesday for lunch and a program. There is
inspiration and fellowship where believers have
fun on the journey of life. Come Tuesday, Sept 13
and bring your favorite "Tailgate food". We say
the blessing at 11:45 AM. Our program will be
presented by Tane Shannon, the
author of “Once Ransomed”. Until
then remember, The Lord is with you
right NOW. Claim His Presence and
Live Well. President, Tom Davis
Hash Sale - October 8

Athens Emergency Food Bank
While working at the Athens
Emergency Food Bank in
August, we learned that so
far this year PUMC had
contributed 1304 items of
food. That places us FOURTH in a list of 21 churches!
What an amazing response we are making to serve our
community. Keep up the good work. Some of the
recurring needs are Ramen noodles, jelly, peanut
butter, dried beans, tuna fish, and canned salmon.
Thank you Princeton! Annette Jackson
Salvation Army
Volunteering is one way to help enrich our lives.
The Princeton Mission team looks for areas of
community service where our church members are
able to participate.
The Salvation Army of Athens is an area that our
church assists with the Christmas Angel Tree for
children. There are other opportunities that our
congregation can assist this worthwhile mission.
These service areas do not require a long
commitment, just a few hours at a time:
The Red Kettle at Christmas (children can
participate with their parents or an adult, great
learning time), serving at the soup kitchen, helping
in the community garden, family store, various
children and youth programs.
If you would like to serve in any of the areas
contact me. Esther Porter (706-202-8873) or
Bigger Vision Ministry
As fall approaches, please keep our new local
ministry, Bigger Vision, in your prayers. BV is a
shelter on North Avenue for 36 homeless men and
women. Our Church has made a commitment to a
good meal served to these guests complete with the
love of Christian fellowship.
Our dates of service are October 17, November 3,
December 5, January 27 and February 24. On each of
these dates, food will be prepared in the church
kitchen from 3 to 5 pm; delivery and set-up, 5 to 6 pm;
serving and fellowship from 6 pm until…
We need the help of individuals and families. The
guests at the BV facility seldom have an opportunity
to visit with children. It is a safe environment and a
great opportunity to serve the Lord as a family.
Please help with any of these phases of service on any
of these dates.

Princeton Servant Spotlight
Quietly, Diane Jarrett works behind the
scenes to serve the Lord and this church
in meaningful ways. The daughter of
Vera and Ed Bramblett, Diane grew up
here at Princeton. She is married to
Robert Jarrett and they raised their two
daughters, Laura and Katherine, in
Princeton UMC. She has retired from
UGA Business Services Accounts
Payable and enjoys her grandson
(JR). At Princeton Diane is following in
her father's footsteps as Sunday School
Secretary, collecting and posting
attendance and offerings. She is also a
member of the Altar Guild, preparing the
elements and altar for communion on a
regular basis. Diane faithfully comes
every month to collate, label and mail our
monthly newsletter, The PUMP. When
you see Diane thank her for her
faithfulness and her service!
Fall Lay Servant Classes
Three Lay Servant classes are being offered in the
fall. The Basic Class is a prerequisite before you
can take any other class. I would encourage
everyone to take the Basic Class. It provides a good
background of Methodism, which we all need.
Classes take place over 2 Saturdays. Most people
find it easier to attend for two days rather than a 5-
6 week schedule. See Annette Jackson to register.
Location - Bethlehem FUMC
Dates - Oct 29 & Nov 5 (9:00 am-2:30 pm)
Basic - Instructor Amanda Padovano
Heritage - Instructor Bob Dean
Preaching - Instructor Rev. Dee Dee Lawson
Operation Christmas Child Coming in October
It’s time to start thinking about our
Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.
We have enough empty boxes, but still need our usual
supplies of toys and small school items. All items
need to be new, non-breakable, no liquids or snack
foods. Toothpaste and candy will now longer be sent
due to various . Boxes from the Southeast Region
have always gone to warm weather countries. A
“WOW” item that will just take their breath away
could be a doll, a stuffed animal a soccer ball – just
something a child would be thrilled to receive.
Check the narthex in the next couple of weeks for a
list. Annette Jackson

Thank you for all the lovely cards, flowers and
prayers. I love receiving these beautiful cards.
Please continue to pray for me as I recover.
Charlotte Johnson
Thank you to our friends at Princeton for the
prayers, cards, gift bags, calls/texts, and visits
during my accident and recovery a few months
ago. I have returned home to Ohio and continuing
my health care there. Things are going well and
I've just started back to school where I serve as a
para-professional in special education in middle
school. Your kindness and prayers were very
much felt and appreciated.

From the Finance Committee
Make a special gift to the General Fund
Love the Lord ... with all your heart ... soul ... mind and ... strength. Mark 12:30
Our church treasurer, Dick Field, reports that although our expenses are well within budget they exceed our tithes and offerings by about $5,000. Meanwhile, giving to unbudgeted items (Capital Campaign, Food Bank, Rainbow Casseroles, Our Daily Bread, a love offering, and funds for new landscaping) total about $6,100. The interpretation of those figures is that our congregation is not without money. We have money and are willing to give it. Thank you for your generosity. We are a loving people. When we hear of special needs our hearts are touched and we respond generously. But bills for regular, more mundane, less heart-warming needs and obligations such as supplies, utilities, salaries, etc. are piling up. With just four months left in the year we need to turn the situation around promptly. We need to be fiscally responsible by keeping the general fund well fueled. Then we will be able to reach out in love to offer the breath-taking, life-saving grace of our Lord and Savior to the hungry, the hurt, and the lost. Please consider an extra gift to the general fund. Make it special: give it in memory or in honor of someone you know and love. Or make a permanent increase in your regular offering. And always make your gift joyfully – the Lord loves a cheerful giver. Out of love we want to serve God, not with just a little, not even with a lot, but with
everything we have. He is worthy of our all.
