My thoughts are with you in this time of turmoil. Having been part of the MSD WINZ & Senior Services team for over 25 years and a PSA delegate for over half of that time, I remember our feelings when we were at risk. The Flaxmere attack was very close. It cost one of my colleagues, who remains a friend, his career. Do not be afraid to ask for counselling. Listen to and support each other. In unity, there is strength. I wish I could be there to hug and offer my love to each of you. Marjorie Thomas (Kelly), Retired 2010

The loss of losing someone is of much grief and despair and endless questions... it is the thought that you, the families, friends and working colleagues of Leigh Cleveland, Peg Turuhira Noble (Haere, haere, haere ra e te whaea ki o matua nui i te rangi), and Lindy Curtis, are blessed with a community that loves you all so much and a nation ready to support. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love. Love to all, Linda P Hendl, comunity support worker.

I cannot stop thinking about the victims and their families as well as everyone, including staff and clients, present at the time this outrageous and disgusting event occurred. This organisation especially is desparately in need of ramped-up security. It’s not easy to have to deliver bad news and/or decline applications to those who are already in desperate situations. I do hope that as a result of this, at least, security aspects for all WINZ sites are revisited. Rena Lawless, ESR, Porirua.

My thoughts are with you all at this horrific time. Katinka Gregoire, Waitakere Hospital receptionist.

I am heartbroken for you all. We work with difficult and unpredictable people every day, but very rarely have concerns for our safety. Losing a workmate or loved one reminds us how fragile life is and how precious our loved ones are. Your lives have changed forever and this will set you on different paths. Take care on your journey; you are not alone. Jude MacDonald, Community Corrections (Probation).

We are deeply saddened to hear of the news of the passing of valuable staff who have lost their lives in the line of duty in Ashburton Work and Income Office, and also the remaining staff who would have experienced terrible trauma. Our hearts and prayers go to these people and their families. We also send prayers for the hospital staff and the CYF staff who were also involved in this terrible event as they are our colleagues to and we all worked with the often all working with the same people. From staff here at the CDHB Child & Family Safety Service at Christchurch Hospital and Christchurch Women’s Hospital.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you take on this new journey in life. Therese Martin, Nicci Weild and Robin Millar and Susan Miles at the CDHB Child & Family Safety Service.

Deepest sympathy for your tragic loss. Our thoughts and hearts are with you at this very sad time. Evelyn Smith, Public Health Administrator, Taranaki District Health Board, New Plymouth.

My heart goes out to all those involved with this tragic event. Thinking of you and the impact this has had on you and hoping that this will never happen again. Joy Duggan, Lakes District Hospital.

Regret and sorrow has filled all of our hearts for your loss of such giving souls. All the Staff, Outpatients Waitakere Hospital.

I was on holiday in Australia when I learned of the despicable and brutal actions of an individual who took the precious lives of two valued women and critically injured the third. I am sickened to my very core that someone would do this to people who are doing a valiant and worthwhile job helping people to the very best of their ability. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to each and every person at WINZ Ashburton for your loss. Jillian Oliver, Te Puna Wai o Tuhinapo.

The management and team of the Ashburton District Court are unbelievably shocked and affected by the horrors of Monday morning. Our heartfelt thoughts are with you all and particularly the families and whanau of Peg, Leigh and Lindy. WINZ and Justice often have a shared client base as a result of the Public Service work that we do. WINZ staff, like the Court staff, have always dealt with clients up front and often very personal, with an overriding ethos of helping those that enter our buildings. The deeds of Monday were unconscionable and have sent shock waves across the country. They have also highlighted the closeness that public servants in large or small centres have with each other. Kia Kaha WINZ Ashburton, you are not alone. Chris Greaney, Court Services Manager; Andrea Cater, Court Registry Office; Heather Phillips, Court Registry Officer; Christine Pattie, Court Registry Officer; Pip O’Connell , Court Registry Officer; John Burn, Court Registry Support Officer; The Ashburton District Court Team, Ashburton District Court.

What can one say to you when you are going through so very much; such a huge amount of grief. I am so sorry but that does little to assist with your pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at such a tragic time. Please families of these innocent victims do take care. We give a lot to others just being in the assisting sector but we should never ever give our lives or lose loved ones. Much care to you all. Vivienne Parker, Bay of Plenty Addiction Service, Tauranga.

My thoughts are with all the family, friends and colleagues at this very tragic time. Gone from our sight but never our memories, gone from our touch, but never our hearts. Pauline Hamilton, ACC Nelson.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the families and colleagues of those directly affected by this horrific tragedy. I used to be on DPB myself prior to joining the ministry last year and so can relate to people who are in desperate needs. The callous actions of the perpetrator was by no means a reflection of most beneficiaries. I for one was so grateful for all the assistance I got from WINZ. His action was no excuse to take any one’s lives. My sincere condolences. Catherine.

It’s with disbelief I send this message to the families of the poor staff killed, hurt or generally affected by this disgusting and cowardly act. We as public servants front up day after day to some exceptionally difficult and dangerous situations but always look to do the best for our clientele. Thinking of you all. Wayne Keats, Youth Justice Te Puna Wai o Tuhinapo, Rolleston.

Sympathies and prayers to all those involved in this unnecessary tragedy. My heart goes out to you all. Ki kaha, David Coates, PSA.

Our thoughts and support are with you during this sad time. Kia Kaha, Waihi Community Link, Waihi.

There are no words that can make the pain go away. You are all in my thoughts. Steve Hall, Christchurch.

To all the families and community who were affected by this terrible tragedy, our hearts go out to you all.
