who you truly are.”
― C.G. Jung
ABOUT THE C. G. JUNG SOCIETY OF NEW ORLEANS
The Jung Society is an all-volunteer non-profit organization that promotes self-understanding in the
community of New Orleans through educational lectures and workshops on depth psychology. We offer
lectures and in-depth workshops from September through May and maintain a library of books on
psychology and related topics for our membership. We are also a pre-approved National Board of
Certified Counselors continuing education provider, and many programs offer continuing education
contact hours for social workers.
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS
FOR SOCIAL WORKERS AND LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS
Social workers and LPCs who attend the Jung Society’s programs can receive the CEUs they need to
meet the requirements of their certifying or licensing bodies.
Most of the Jung Society’s offerings award CEUs, generally 1.5 for evening programs and 3.0 or more for
weekend workshops. The certificate fee is $5. Signing in and out of programs is required to qualify for a
certificate.
The Jung Society is able to offer the certificates as a result of having programs approved by the Tulane
School of Social Work and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
We welcome you to our programs and hope you enjoy our presentations while at the same time acquiring
your needed CEUs!

A Big THANK YOU
to our participants in the
Gospel Brunch Fundraiser
this past October
for C.G. Jung Society of New Orleans!
Your participation in this fundraiser has contributed to making the world a better place by helping
students and community members access educational programming provided by The C.G. Jung
Society.
The Gospel Brunch was a fun and truly inspirational event! The Gospel Brunch, hosted by the
House of Blues, featured live entertainment, an all-you-can-eat buffet and endless mimosas.
Members of the Jung Society were seated together on the second floor of the House of Blues for
some of the best seats in the house. Participants socialized, danced, were moved by the spirit, and
had a great time all around!
The C.G. Jung Society of New Orleans is ever grateful to our organizers Thomas Fewer and Judith
Faye for making this event a great success. If you missed the opportunity to come out and brunch
with us, be on the look-out for next year’s event!
If you want to be on the organizing committee for next year’s event contact the Jung Society:

A GUIDE FOR THE SEEKING, LOST, CURIOUS, OR BEFUDDLED
ALCHEMY AND THE HERO’S JOURNEY
Presenter: Everett McLaren, EdD
Friday, January 8, 7:30 pm
1.5 CE clock hours for Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors
The hero’s journey is our own journey of individuation. Jung recognized alchemy to be describing a
process of inner transformation, a process he called “individuation.” Alchemy offers us a map to
help find our way and encounter the archetypal challenges of becoming more truly ourselves. We
will explore some of these images and alchemical processes through dream, story, and myth. A
strong and capable ego is needed for the journey. Dr. McLaren will help us explore the challenges
to be encountered along the way.

AN EVENING WITH GUEST ARTIST CANDY CHANG
THE HEALING POWER OF INTER-ACTIVE PUBLIC ART AND COMMUNAL
SPACE
Hosted by: Jungian Analyst Constance Romero
Tuesday, February 16, 7:30 pm
1.5 CE clock hours for Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors
Join us for an evening presentation and conversation with award-winning artist Candy Chang. She
creates art that prompts people to think about their secrets, wishes, and hopes--and then share
them. Her TED Talk has been viewed over 4 million times. She is a TED Senior Fellow.
Chang re-imagines the city and the role of the public realm to help us make sense of our
communities and ourselves. Renowned for interactive public installations that provoke civic
engagement and emotional introspection, her work has included a vacant high-rise pleading for
love, a confessional sanctuary in a Las Vegas casino, a site-specific fable in an apartment
complex, and a public wall about death and aspirations titled Before I Die that has been instituted
in cities around the world including New Orleans. For more information about the work of Candy
Chang, see candychang.com. Jungian Analyst Constance Romero will host and provide
commentary

DEEP BLUES
HUMAN SOUNDSCAPES FOR THE ARCHETYPAL JOURNEY
Presenter: Mark Winborn, PhD, NCPsyA
Lecture: Friday, March 4, 7:30 pm
Workshop: Saturday, March 5, 10 am – 1 pm ($35 members, $45 nonmembers, $25 students)
Lecture 1.5 CE clock hours for Social Workers and LPCs; Workshop 3.0 CE clock hours for Social Workers
and LPCs.
Universal aspects of human experience and transcendence are revealed through the creative
medium of the blues. Often it is by moving into and through sadness that we are released into an
experience of joy. The blues facilitates this process. In this regard, the bluesman serves as a
modern day shaman who heals through the ritual of music. The presentation will be augmented by
visual images, audio recordings, and video to deepen the audience’s involvement in the themes
explored.
FOREIGNERS
WHO ENTERS? FRIEND OR FOE?
Presenter: Jutta von Buchholtz, LPC, PhD
Tuesday, April 5, 7:30 pm
1.5 CE clock hours for Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors
Using what we understand and experience as foreigners in the outer world as a starting point, we
will explore the inner psychic phenomena of foreigners, strangers, the other. In both arenas,
foreigners are inevitably agents of change against which we often defend ourselves fiercely. The
fears at the root of our attitude to strangers, to the alien, the other, have their psychological roots
deeply in the personal unconscious (as complexes) and in the collective unconscious (as
archetypes). By associatively enriching the concept, we will attempt to make conscious that which
we are not aware of about this phenomenon and which, according to Carl Jung, we would
otherwise meet outside as fate.

CONSCIOUS CRUELTY AND THE NUMINOSITY OF VIOLENCE
Presenter: Laura Tuley, PhD, LPC
Friday, May 13, 7:30 pm
1.5 CE clock hours for Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors
Dr. Tuley will explore the difference between violence that contains an aspect of something we
might refer to as “numinous” or “sublime,” and which is at once creative and life-enhancing
because consciously enacted (with ritual), and violence that is unconscious, regressive, and
ultimately unethical as some see our practice of eating animals. The presenter will discuss Jung’s
idea of the dark side of the Self, his theory of archetypes, and his recognition of a vital connection
between destruction (or death) and creativity.
