A THOUGHT FOR VOCATIONS “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand” (Matthew 4:17) In the critically acclaimed 2016 film, Silence, which tells the story of Jesuit priests in the face of persecution in 17th century Japan, the Judas-like character, Kichijiro, keeps coming back to confession. In spite of his constant betrayals, he knows God is merciful. Following Jesus faithfully as a priest or religious, or as a husband or wife, it doesn’t matter how often we fall, Jesus will keep picking us up if we come to him with repentant hearts. After all, is not our vocation, in essence, to show forth that mercy that we receive? Fr Matt
