Descendants of Early Postmasters 1607-1900 PATRON of Smithsonian National Postal Museum

On August 9, 2018, Postmaster General Robin Towns and member Joyce Patton traveled to Washington, DC to visit the museum and to present our society’s $1000 donation to support museum’s worthy mission. Hannah Trumbull, Advancement Officer, was extremely pleased to accept the generous donation on behalf of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.

It is my great honor to serve as Postmaster General for Descendants of Early Postmasters 1607-1900. Postmasters has enjoyed an excellent Board of General Officers and Surveyors General. We appreciate your support during our first term as we have endeavored to build upon our successful beginning.

Our Third Annual Meeting will be held at 11:00 am on Friday morning, April 12, 2019, with a luncheon at

The Army & Navy Club, on Farragut Square. Hannah M. Trumbull, Advancement Officer, Smithsonian National Postal Museum, will present a program

entitled, “Highlights from the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.”

Many of you have heard about the passing of Camille Redfern Lowery, Postmasters Co-founder, Deputy Postmaster General, and my beloved sister. Thank you for your many expressions of sympathy, caring, and concern. Camille’s loyal service will be missed. It is our hope that working together with you, the members, we will continue to enjoy honoring our ancestors and advancing the purposes of our society. Most sincerely,

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA Once again in 2018, Descendants of Early Postmasters 1607-1900, graciously sponsored ten Christmas wreaths to be placed on the graves of our US Veterans, some graves dating back to veterans of the American Revolution. Hereditary societies, businesses, and individuals contributed to Oconee & Clarke Counties Cemetery Project,

part of the nationwide project known as "Wreaths Across America." The project covered seven cemeteries in Oconee & Clarke Counties, Georgia, where wreaths were placed on graves of Veterans, strongly supporting the nationwide mission. The goal of "Wreaths Across America" is to have a wreath placed on the grave of every Veteran in America, one grave at the time. Saturday, December 15, 2018 was the nationwide day for the wreath ceremony. A dedication ceremony was held, and a moment of silence observed at exactly 12:00 noon EST across the nation. Following the ceremony, volunteers dispersed, placing a wreath on each Veteran's grave, reverently stating the Veteran’s name aloud, as an annual remembrance to that person and his or her service to the nation. Sincere appreciation is extended to Descendants of Early Postmasters for supporting this most worthy and deserving project to honor the Veterans of our great nation.
