Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back for Term 4. I hope that everyone had the opportunity to spend some quality family time during the break. It will be a busy term with lots to get through, so let’s get started….. Building Update The building project gained momentum over the holidays. Having unrestricted access to classrooms in the quadrangle meant that the fitting of lights could be completed in the rooms. We were also alerted to termite activity in some of the floors. This was investigated and thankfully, there is no major damage to the subfloors. The treatment will occur in the Christmas holiday break. Painting of trims around the old building was also completed. Cabling and wiring continues for electricity and data points in both the old and new building. The new building has had external painting completed. Internal painting has started, as has the laying of carpet. The decking between the Administration building and the Library is in its final stages. At this stage, everything appears to be on track and the completion date is still expected to be early December. Chinese Immersion Program Next week, approximately 50 students and eight teachers from Suzhou Industrial Park area will arrive in Bendigo. They will be hosted by families from 15 primary schools across Bendigo. We have three children, two girls and one boy plus one teacher from our Sister School, Wencui PS, who will be here for the eight week period. This year the children are Crystal, Linda and Ethan. The teacher‘s name is Chenlu. Thanks again to the families at the school who are hosting the students and the teacher. Your generosity in opening your home to one of the Chinese visitors is greatly appreciated. Student Toilets Students, parents and teachers will be happy to hear that we were able to use the school holidays to give the toilets a vigorous and thorough clean. We will keep the major clean on our maintenance cycle to try to alleviate the buildup of odour. The building is old, so it won’t be perfect – but it should be significantly better. VIP (Grandparents and Special Friends) Morning Next Thursday, October 19th will be our VIP morning for our grandparents and special friends. Our students will be writing personalised invitations inviting their guests to join them for group activities in their classroom from 9.00am – 11.00am. The students love sharing their classroom with their family and friends and really look forward to the day. Our wonderful PFA will again be providing morning tea for our visitors. Weather permitting, this will be held on the astroturf area outside of the multipurpose building. It will be wonderful to see as many people as possible attend. Grade Structure in 2018 & Parent Input I ask that all families seeking to enrol their child in Prep at Quarry Hill PS next year should have their enrolment form completed as soon as possible. If your child will not be attending Quarry Hill PS in 2018, we would appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible. If there are any concerns about placements for students in 2018, even if you have already discussed it with your child’s teacher, Anne Rochford or myself, please let me know in writing by Friday, 13th October 2017. Please note that it is not possible for parents to request specific teachers.

NEXT PFA MEETING IS TUESDAY 17th OCTOBER at 7.00pm in staffroom. We are trying an evening meeting to see if this is more convenient.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

A big thank you to all the wonderful parents who helped make the Pizza Lunch Day last term a huge success, we had 100 pizzas to serve and managed to do it in under 10 minutes. It was great to see new faces helping out, remember you don't need to be a member of PFA to help out but we would love you to join us. Next week QHPS is hosting VIP DAY on Thursday October 19th. PFA supports the school by holding a morning tea for all the visiting guests on this day. We will be serving tea and coffee and providing slices, cakes, biscuits and fruit for our VIP’s to enjoy. To continue these events we ask the school community to contribute either their time or baked goods, (homemade or store bought) both are greatly appreciated. If you are unable to help serve on the day but can donate, we would love a plate of biscuits, slices, cup-cakes, a cake or a fruit platter. All of these can be dropped off in the staff room at 9.00 am on the day. If you can help out on the day please let me or the office know. The morning tea will be running from 9.30 to 11.00am. Let's show off our generous school community. The following day is World Teacher Appreciation Day and as a school community we provide the teachers with an afternoon tea served at 2.00pm. Again we ask if you could bake a few extra goodies that we could serve the staff for afternoon tea. Mango orders have gone out this week. Trays are $25.00 each, (approximately 12-20 mangoes, 7 kg in total). Orders must be returned to the office by October 31st, and no late orders will be accepted. Delivery will be early December and a text message will be sent out confirming the exact date. All orders must be collected from school on the day between 3.00pm – 4.00pm.

SAVE THE DATE The QHPS Disco is on Thursday December 7th! We are also excited to announce the free photo booth is back! Kasslea Shaw President

PARK AND WALK TOGETHER Did you know that 60 minutes of physical activity every day is recommended for children? October is Walk to School month and a great time to start walking. The spring sunshine makes it easier to get out and about. So next time you drive your kids to and from school, why not park the car further away from the gate and get in a little extra activity. Park and Walk together today! Visit www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au for further information.
