ROOTS IN GERMANY In 1857, Heinrich and Elizabeth Plassmeyer and their six children, Anton, Hermann,

Joseph, John, Elizabeth, and Gerhard left their home near this intersection in

Wadersloh in north central Germany.

AMERICAN BEGINNINGS The family settled in Osage county Missouri. I begin with Joseph as our patriarch for

the purposes of this family marker in time, and dub his generation as Gen 1.

GEN 1 PHOTOS Photos of Gen 1 individuals are scarce. The only available photos of Joseph’s siblings

are those of his brothers’ Anton and John in Union Army uniform.

FAMILY START Joseph married Margaret Bode Winkelman in 1867 and moved to Deer Creek Farm, the

family homestead near Westphalia, Mo. They had five children: Henry(Fr. Theodosius),

Martin, Mary(Adrian), John(died in infancy), and Clara(Schwartz).

Margaret died in 1882. Joseph

then married Elizabeth Morfield in

1883 and had one child: Joseph

(the Colonel).
