The Apollo Theater opened in 1914 on the site of the Crescent Theater, which burned down a few years earlier. The Apollo was designed by noted architect Frederic J. Klein. The theater, the first in Peoria specifically designed for motion pictures, operated until 1958, and was used briefly as office space after that run. The painting Nymphs and Satyr, that hangs in Richard’s is a copy of the 1873 work by William Bouguereau. The copy was done by Louis Kurz in 1901.
