Target Audience

The objective of the Next Generation program is to introduce year 8–10 students to the oil and gas industry in a fun, interactive and educational environment.

Purpose

We aim to educate students about the oil and gas industry and the important role energy plays in our society, as we provide information on the diversity of career options available.

Goals

By matching each school with an industry mentor, students get first hand access to information from someone working directly in the industry. This program provides an opportunity to inspire the next generation and to promote the oil and gas industry to our future workforce.

Success

In 2018 we had over 450 students from 12 schools participate in the program, including regional school Dongara District High.

Connecting the “Next Generation” to Careers in the Oil & Gas Industry

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Next Generation Schools Program is a community engagement initiative that has been facilitated by the Petroleum Club of Western Australia since 1991.

The Program consists of 4 mentor visits throughout the year, plus the Student Expo Day which is generally held in August/September.

During each mentor visit, students learn about the impact the oil and gas industry has on society, meet with industry professionals and participate in various interactive experiments.

The program culminates in the Student Expo Day were students are invited to visit interactive displays and generate points through completion of industry related activities, games and quizzes. The aim is to generate interest and facilitate the question & answer process between students and industry representatives.

Page 16: THE PETROLEUM CLUB OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA · which they can enjoy the benefits of being part of a group of informed industry representatives. Our primary role being the facilitation

Sponsorship Opportunities

This program relies on the participation from industry mentors and organisation sponsorship to ensure we can continue to inspire the “next generation”.

This program provides a rewarding opportunity for your organisation and your staff to give back to the industry you work in. Engage with the ‘Next Generation’ of aspiring students and ignite their passion for the oil and gas industry.

Each year the Next Generation committee work closely with teachers and mentors to continue the development of the program, keeping it current, interesting and adding value to the student’s education.
