Principal’s Report

STUDENTS REMEMBER – Lest We Forget This year on Sunday 11 November at 11.00am, we commemorated the 100th year anniversary since the guns on the Western Front fell silent and reflected on the significance of that event. We also paused to remember all of the men and women of the Australian Defence Force who have made the ultimate sacrifice. On Friday, PHPS students observed a minute of silence, dedicated to the deceased, especially for soldiers who died fighting to protect the free nation we have today. A large contingent of Pennant Hills PS students also paid their respects at the Beecroft Lions commemorative service on Sunday. Thank you to the teachers and parents who continue year after year to ensure our students remember the tremendous sacrifices of the generations of yesteryear.

YEAR 5 LEADERSHIP DAY On Thursday the Year 5 students participated in a selection of activities designed to develop leadership skills. These activities also helped the students to decide if student leadership is something they would like to consider.

The activities included: Public Speaking Team Games Speech Writing

Values Activity Co-operative Games Questions and Answers (from current leaders). Thank you to Mrs Coventry, Mrs Isuasti, Mr Blumenthal and Mrs Griffith for guiding our students in developing leadership qualities ready for 2019.

The Pennant Term 4, Week 5

Thank you also to those parents who assisted with transportation and catering making the day a huge success. We look forward to seeing out students shine as they step into the various leadership positions in 2019. Best of luck everyone.

BUSKING - LAOS On Sunday 11 November between 12pm to 2pm some of our students, Caitlin P, Mischa C, Matthew Y, Lily H, Oliver H, Anita T, Helen B, Emily S and Tara H gathered and raised some money ($237.35!) by busking at Hornsby Westfield. The money raised will be contributed to buy some tables and chairs for the classroom for school children in Laos. The students are extremely thankful and grateful for everyone who have helped make a difference in their life, no matter how small. Thank you everyone for your support.

CONGRATULATIONS MRS BROOME I would like to congratulate Mrs Broome on being successful through merit selection as SAM at North Kellyville Public School. As this is a new school, and Mrs Broome will be involved in the initial administration and set up for the school to open in 2019, Mrs Broome will begin at North Kellyville, Monday 19 November, 2018. From all of the staff and community at PHPS, I would like to wish Mrs Broome all the very best in her new adventures as the foundation SAM at North Kellyville PS. We welcome back Mrs Klimoski as Relieving SAM. Mrs Klimoski has been relieving SAM for over a term during 2018. She has also supported our administration staff on both K-2 and 3-6 campuses for casual days throughout the year. Welcome back Mrs Klimoski. FAREWELL PENNANT HILLS As most of you will be aware, I have only a few days left at Pennant Hills Public School and this newsletter is probably one of the few opportunities left for me to express my thanks to all of our community for the support, co-operation and friendship that they have shared with me over the past five years. I am very sad to say good-bye to the many people I have had the privilege of meeting and working with. For me, this school has been a vibrant, exciting place to learn as we implemented the many initiatives all aimed at ensuring our students, your children, have the very best public education has to offer.

Pennant Hills Public School is a great community and I have absolutely loved my time here as Deputy and Relieving Principal. The students have always been inspirational, hard-working, considerate and compassionate of others. The teachers are some of the best I have ever worked with and the parent community has been caring and supportive of me and the school staff. Together we emphasised the importance of looking for positive learning opportunities for everyone, and collaborating with the wider school community and industry to embrace literacy, STEM and inquiry based learning. During the odd, few reflective moments over the past few months, I have been struck by how poignant a saying it is that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. For me this is about how important relationships are in a school. Without the hard work of staff, educating the students holistically, just doesn’t happen, but education is not the only thing that a school community does. Parents, other members of the community and students all work together with staff to set values, and provide role

The Pennant Term 4, Week 5

models of how to relate to each other and show empathy and compassion for communities beyond ours. Without all of these people co-operating and supporting each other, the community would be a poorer one than ours is.

I have seen and worked in such communities over my career and I am so glad that I have been at Pennant Hills where the most important thing has been to build authentic positive partnerships in learning and respectful relationships with everyone. I couldn’t ask for a better community in which to lead and deepen my passion for teaching and finding opportunities for our students, staff and community to be better, - better for themselves, better for the community and better for the human race. If I don’t see you personally then please accept my thanks for being a part of our “village”. I will always cherish my time spent learning with all of you!

Last, but most importantly…

Don’t forget every day to remind your children how special they are and how much you love them.

Kind regards, Mrs Rhonda Gosman Relieving Principal

MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Farewell Mrs Gosman Thank you and good luck. This week we farewell Mrs Gosman after 5 years at Pennant Hills Public School. Mrs Gosman has been a true leader and we salute her for that. We are saddened as you leave Pennant Hills but wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors. A great teacher is not necessarily a great mentor. A great mentor is not necessarily a great leader. A great leader is not necessarily a great teacher but you have been a great teacher, mentor, leader and relieving principal – all rolled into one, farewell.

Younger siblings are welcome at the K-2 site but unfortunately, children are not allowed in the 3-6 canteen.
