The Peace Education Program The Prem Rawat Foundation

T he Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF), created in 2001, addresses the fundamental human needs of food, water, and peace.

Advancing Peace

For most of his life, Prem Rawat has been bringing a message of peace and hope to people everywhere. His message has reached millions through personal appearances, video, television broadcasts, and the Internet. Each year, TPRF sponsors forums introducing Prem Rawat’s message of peace to community and civic leaders. e Foundation has also developed a Peace Education Program (PEP) that provides a curriculum based on Prem Rawat’s international addresses for exploring inner resources such as peace.

Providing Essential Aid

Based on Prem Rawat’s vision, TPRF has developed a model program called Food for People that serves nutritious daily meals year-round to children and ailing adults at clean, modern facilities in Bantoli, India; Dhading District, Nepal; and Otinibi, Ghana. is successful program has provided health and education bene ts for the children who attend, helping communities to break the cycle of poverty.

TPRF partners with reputable nonpro t organizations to provide food, water, and eye care to people in need as well as to victims of disasters. is essential aid has helped countless people in urgent need of life-sustaining resources. Care is taken to ensure that aid reaches the intended recipients e ciently and rapidly.

I nmates in correctional facilities around the world have been transformed thanks to the Peace Education Program.

Inmates attend weekly workshops where they watch videos brought to them by TPRF volunteers and have the opportunity to talk and/or write about what they are learning.

Prison o cials have reported noticeable improvements in behavior of inmates who have attended the classes. Anecdotal evidence suggests a signi cant reduction in recidivism, and baseline studies are underway.

e success of the program in the Dominguez State Jail in San Antonio, Texas, has recently attracted

the attention of the Criminal Justice Department at the University of Texas:

“Something very positive is happening here. O enders seem to nd understanding of themselves and a personal sense of inner peace, all of which may be needed for them to break destructive cycles and behavior patterns that have led them time and time again to jail and prison.” – Dr. Michael Gilbert, Associate Professor

Many inmates continue to participate in the Peace Education Program a er their release from prison. Pilot programs for parolees are beginning in Oxnard and Santa Barbara, California.

P rem Rawat speaks about themes such as Peace, Inner Strength, Self-Awareness, Choice and Hope in the 10 hours of video

material that comprise the PEP curriculum.

ere are 2-3 excerpts from Prem Rawat’s talks, animated and video shorts, and time for re ection for each theme, as well as a workbook and illustrated articles. e material is adaptable to a variety of educational situations.

e purpose of the PEP is for participants to begin to appreciate their own innate value, understand the possibility of personal peace, and discover inner resources such as hope, choice, and clarity.

e rst pilot program for the new curriculum began in June 2012 in Australia at an international business college. One student remarked,

“We get so caught up with looking for peace that we forget what is obvious: peace is inside us.”

Transforming Lives

T PRF’s Peace Education Program (PEP) is an innovative educational program that aims to help participants discover their

own inner resources and the possibility of personal peace. e program content is comprised of video and print material based on Prem Rawat’s international addresses.

PEP is designed for use within a variety of organizations. For instance, over the last ve years it has been integrated into rehabilitation programs in prisons in Europe, South Africa, South America, India, Asia, and North America.

“I have found peace even in a place like prison, living each day happy to be alive and making the best of every minute. ank you.” Dominguez State Jail, TX, USA

In 2011 the success of the program in prisons led to requests for a more structured yet exible curriculum that could run in university classes, veterans groups, libraries, and other civic and social organizations.

“ e Peace Education curriculum is high quality, simple to understand, and non-denominational. I recommend this program as an e ective means to help increase harmony within individuals and the community in which you serve.”

Stephen J. Steurer, Executive Director, Correctional Education Association

“I’m going to be

released very soon, but this time I will walk the

straight path. I know there are many distractions,

but what I want now is my inner peace!”

Ezeiza Women’s Prison Unit 31, Argentina

“Had I heard Prem

Rawat earlier, I may very well never have come to such a point in my life

that I fi nd myself now—in prison!”

San Quentin State Prison, California, USA

“This was not about

a certifi cate. It was about fi nding peace within myself. It was there I started

to have hope. When I attended this class, my life completely

changed.” Zonderwater Prison,

S. Africa
