Earlier this September, the Pasadena Community Foundation encouraged children to get involved in community development efforts at the Yes, Virginia Fund’s Santa’s Workshop. Now in its 20th year, the Yes, Virginia Fund was established in commemoration of eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon, who wrote to editor Frank Church inquiring if Santa Claus was real. Mr. Church’s famous reply of “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” was the first step in community efforts to support nonprofits around the holidays to provide toys, books, gifts, and other special experiences to underserved communities.

Since its inception, the Yes, Virginia Fund has donated more than $230,000, ensuring that hundreds of less-fortunate children do not have to go without a Christmas. The event, which was held on September 28, 2014, invited children to partake in community development efforts by decorating envelopes to be filled with gift cards and making craft gifts.
