Hello SBPHC!

Where do I start? We still have a lot of events and "Party with a Purpose" outings coming up.

We have the Leadership conference coming up August 11-13. For all the new members, this conference is for all Parrot Head clubs in Florida to get together, talk about events and help each other with different issues. It will be held in Orlando this year. It starts on Friday with a welcoming party with Sunny Jim playing. We will also have dinner together on Saturday night at Margaritaville. It is great to hear how other clubs do things, and work together to find solutions to try to make OUR club better.

Don't forget about Meeting of the Minds coming up in November. If you have never been to MOTM, it is a must trip to Key West. This year’s dates are Nov 1st -5th. Our club event is called Bloody Mary Morning, held on Friday morning at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon. You have to be a member in good standing with OUR club to be able to attend this conference, so make sure your membership is current before registering. If you need more information, go to www.PHIP.com.

We have the big golf tournament, the Patti Myles Open, coming up in October which is always a great time. This outing benefits the Alzheimer’s Association. We will have more info coming up on this event soon.

Make sure you check Facebook, the website, the news-letter and the Five O'Clock Update for all info coming up. I hope everyone is ready for the second half of this year....... A LOT of great events coming up!

Happy Hour on July 14th was at the Sand Dollar pool bar. It was a little bar next to the pool at the Best Western. Katrina and her staff did a great job. I believe we had about 40 Parrot Heads there and John Patti did a great job playing for us. They only have hot dogs here at the bar to eat so a lot of us walked over to Harry's and ate and then came back to the Happy Hour.

Great time had by all!!

Jazzy Sunset Cruise had us Rockin' to the Beat by Viviane Silverman

As a new member of the Parrot Heads, July 8th's LeBarge cruise was only my 2nd club event; I was feeling shy, as I came alone and did not know anyone. So I brought some food to share at the tailgate dinner beforehand, knowing that would force me to circulate more. Everyone was nice (phew!), and when I met a very friendly group which hailed from the community next to mine, I was so happy when they invited me to sit with them! When it came time to board LeBarge –- a fun and funky cruise ship sprouting lit palm trees and a “party-hearty” mermaid – our group surged

up to the open top deck to enjoy the Bay breeze and the icy drinks from their two bars. Old and new friends circulated, hugging and catching up; everyone watched for jumping dolphins, and fantasized about which of Bird Key's gorgeous mansions and yachts they might like to live in – minus the taxes and upkeep, of course! After a little while, the spirited live music from Chad Conte – a talented local musician who not only sings, but also plays the sax and flute – made dancing irresistible! Chairs were quickly stacked out of the way, and Jimmy Buffet's spirit was there amongst all of us, rockin' to the beat. I was lucky enough to dance some swing with a charming partner, and could have sworn I was transported back to '65. Yeah! Sarasota's fabled sunset was especially gorgeous that evening, bright pinks and oranges swimming on the waters of the Bay. I found myself happily tired and much more relaxed than when I had started the evening. Leaving the boat, I hugged my new-found friends and promised to invite them over soon to visit my own community. Driving home, I reflected on what a stroke of luck that a friend had invited me to an earlier Parrot Head social, and that I had decided to join on the spot. I was now looking forward to many more fun club get-togethers that were also benefiting our larger community and our local environment.

“Party with a Purpose” seems to be turning into my new mantra!

Parrot Heads, please keep an eye out for emails from the club’s new membership site. The Bored has worked very hard on this project to make joining or renewing your membership a breeze! The Club now has a Paypal account that can be used to pay your membership or event registrations online. This is still a work in progress! More events will be added so that you can see who will be attending. Take a moment to check out the site. Any and all questions or feedback, please contact Lucie Przybylowicz at [email protected].

We need more Fruitcakes in this world! And less bakers!

Do you love to be a social Parrot Head? Well, do we have a job for you! Fruitcakes are members that help the new members get acquainted with the club. Fruitcakes help new members learn all the ways our club communicates to the members, understanding all of the club events and charities.

We want to make sure that every one of our members knows who, what, where, how and why about our club and to make sure they meet and make new friends.

If you are interested in being a Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club Fruitcake, great! Please contact Lucie Przybylowicz at

[email protected].

ISLAND CLEANUP #3

Thank you to the 30 Parrot heads that came out on Saturday, July 15 to cleeean our beaches! It was a fun morning of volunteering, camaraderie and good eating. We picked up trash on

Edwards Island, the Big Island and the parking area around the dock. We collected 8 large bags of trash which made our environment SOOO much cleaner for all to enjoy. A special thank you to Bob Smith, who was “the” boat captain of the day. Bob carried volunteers back and forth to the island, while Chef Boy R-Dave and his crew prepared lunch for the hungry workers in the parking lot area. Mark your calendars, and plan to attend, our last cleanup of the year on October 14th.

Thank you for taking another trip around the sun

with us!

We’re so glad you decided to stay!

“The White Lei” If you see someone wearing one, that means they are new members to the

club. Welcome them and tell them how much fun they are going to have as a member of the Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club! Every month I spotlight the new members that I have met at the meetings. Next time you see someone wearing a white lei, ask them to join your group! They all joined to make new friends, clean the environment and have a lot of fun along the way.

SHELBY DAVIS transferred to Sarasota from Atlanta in March to ac-cept the General Manager position with Eternal Reef. She works with Katie Girl at Eternal Reef, and deals with Larry Beggs who owns Reef Innovations. She says she is loving Sarasota, she has joined the Sarasota Walkers, she bought a paddle board and is spending time on the water. MARGIE & SCOTT PLOENSE moved to Sarasota from Naperville, IL. Scott’s job brought him to the area. Margie is looking into a new career, but she wouldn’t disclose what it is. They are Virgin Parrot heads, they were just sitting at the bar having a cold one & decid-ed this club looked like fun, joined and we hope we don’t let them down! Sherry Swartz, The Profiler

We collect them and turn them in for cash which is donated to Alzheimer’s Association towards our Memory Walk Fundraising. Just another reason to drink more beer and Party with a Purpose!!! Ink Cartridges: What do you do with your empty ink cartridges? Bring them to the next meeting, we collect these and donate them to local schools that get $3.00 per cartridge for school supplies.

The “Not-Bored” of Directors meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month. If you have any ideas that you would like the board to look into, please contact any Board Member with your thoughts. Volunteers are always needed. If you are interested in getting more involved, please let us know!
