Hymn - God Is One, Unique and Holy

1. God is One, unique and holy, endless dance of love and light, only source of mind and body, star-cloud, atom, day and night: ev'rything that is or could be tells God's anguish and delight.

Page 4: The Parish of St. Laurence, Coquitlam...2020/06/05  · earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters

2. God is Oneness by Communion, never single or alone; all togetherness including friendship, family, and home, common mind and shared agreement, common loaf and sung Shalom. 3. God is One through desolation-- blindness, treason, blood and gall; One, though torn by separation in the Son's forsaken call; One through death and resurrection; One in Spirit, One for all. Reading Genesis 1:1-2:4a

In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

And God said, “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

Page 5: The Parish of St. Laurence, Coquitlam...2020/06/05  · earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters

And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

And God said, “Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky.” So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything

Page 6: The Parish of St. Laurence, Coquitlam...2020/06/05  · earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters

that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”

So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” God said, “See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude. And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.

These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

Psalm 8 O Lord, Our Lord, throughout the Earth

1. O Lord, our Lord, throughout the earth how glorious is your name; and glorious too where unseen heav’ns your majesty proclaim. On infant lips, in children’s song a strong defense you raise to counter enemy and threat and foil the rebel’s ways.

2. When I look up and see the sky which your own fingers made, and wonder at the moon and stars each perfectly displayed; then I must ask, “Why do you care? Why love humanity? And why keep ev’ry mortal name fixed in your memory?”

3. Yet such as us you made and meant just less than gods to be; with honor and with glory, Lord, you crowned humanity. And then dominion you bestowed for all made by your hand: all sheep and cattle, birds and fish that move through sea and land.

Prayers

Let us pray to the Lord, who is our refuge and stronghold. For the health and well-being of our nation, that all who are fearful and anxious may be at peace and free from worry: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us.

For all those experiencing loss, and all who are grieving: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us. For the isolated and housebound, that we may be alert to their needs, and care for them in their vulnerability: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us.

For our homes and families, our schools and young people, and all in any kind of need or distress: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us. For a blessing on our local community, that our neighbourhoods may be places of trust and friendship,

Page 11: The Parish of St. Laurence, Coquitlam...2020/06/05  · earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters

where all are known and cared for: Lord, hear us, Lord, graciously hear us.

I invite you to offer your own prayers and petitions:

(A moment of silence)

Faithful God, we commend ourselves, and all for whom we pray, to your steadfast love, healing and protection. Merciful One,

Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. https://www.churchofengland.org

Lord’s Prayer

Presider And now as our saviour has taught us, we are bold to say: All Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from

evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are

yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Hymn Come, Join the Dance of Trinity

1. Come, join the dance of Trinity, before all worlds begun— the interweaving of the Three, the Father, Spirit, Son. The universe of space and time did not arise by chance, but as the Three, in love and hope, made room within their dance."

2. Come, see the face of Trinity, newborn in Bethlehem; then bloodied by a crown of thorns outside Jerusalem. The dance of Trinity is meant for human flesh and bone; when fear confines the dance in death, God rolls away the stone. 3. Come, speak aloud of Trinity, as wind and tongues of flame set people free at Pentecost to tell the Saviour's name. We know the yoke of sin and death, our necks have worn it smooth; go tell the world of weight and woe that we are free to move!

4. Within the dance of Trinity, before all worlds begun, we sing the praises of the Three, the Father, Spirit, Son. Let voices rise and interweave,

Page 13: The Parish of St. Laurence, Coquitlam...2020/06/05  · earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters

by love and hope set free, to shape in song this joy, this life: the dance of Trinity. Richard Leach, 2001,2002. © 2005 Selah Publishing Co., Inc. Music: Trad, arr. Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1906.

Blessing

May the blessing of the God of peace and justice be with us;

May the blessing of the Son who weeps the tears of the world’s suffering

be with us;

And may the blessing of the Spirit who inspires us to reconciliation and hope

be with us from now into eternity.

Amen.

Trinity Sunday

In the Beginning, not in time or space, But in the quick before both space and time, In Life, in Love, in co-inherent Grace, In three in one and one in three, in rhyme, In music, in the whole creation story, In his own image, his imagination, The Triune Poet makes us for his glory, And makes us each the other's inspiration. He call us out of darkness, chaos, chance, To improve a music of our own, To sing the chord that calls us to the dance, three notes resounding from a single tone, To sing the End in who we all begin; Our God beyond, beside us, and within.
