    WEEKLY MEDLEY November 10, 2019

What does it mean, anyway? Q: What significance does the Old Testament have for Christians? A: In the Old Testament, God reveals himself as the Creator and preserver of the world and as the leader and instructor of mankind. The Old Testament books are also God’s Word and Sacred Scripture. Without the Old Testaments, we cannot understand Jesus. (CCC 121-123, 128-130, 140) St. Francis says: “To read Scripture means to turn to Christ for advice.” And how about the New Testament?

In the New Testament God’s Revelation is completed. The four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are the centerpiece of Sacred Scripture and the most precious treasure of the Church.

In them the Son of God shows himself as he is and encounters us. In the Acts of the Apostles we learn about the beginnings of the Church and the working of the Holy Spirit. In the letters written by the apostles, all facets of human life are set in the light of Christ. In the Book of Revelation we foresee the end of the ages. (CCC 124-17, 128-130, 140) Saints and Memorials for the Week:

November 11 – St. Martin of Tours November 12 – St. Josaphat November 13 – St. Frances Xavier Cabrini November 15 – St. Albert the Great November 16 – St. Margaret of Scotland and St. Gertrude

You’re kidding me, right? Question: The ark was built in 3 stories. The top one had a window to let in light. How did the bottom two stories

get light? Answer: They used floodlights. Question: Why didn't Noah go fishing? Answer: He only had two worms.

    Legacy Fund: $2,243.00 —Thank You!

    Dear Friends in Christ,

May you feel God’s great love and joy in your hearts and your homes!

I have just finished reading the le ers of our Confirma on candidates. All of them expressed their prayerful wish and pe on to receive the Sacrament. Some wrote about their families and their sports teams, others about their hobbies and likes. Some men oned their prepara ons in receiving the Sacrament (going to Mass weekly, praying, service projects), while others simply stated their wish to be confirmed. One candidate wrote, “I would like to receive the Sacrament of Confirma on. I want to know that all my CCD prac ce paid off, to get married in the Church and be a Godfather someday.” He also said that he hopes to get a new suit for the ceremony.

Furthermore, this candidate promised that he will take his children to church when he becomes a dad. He will tell them that “God is the reason that they are here and that they should go to CCD and when they think it’s boring I’ll tell them that this is important to be in the house of God.”

Not to dash his hopes to be a natural father but with that kind of honesty and sincerity, I think he is good priest-material, a different kind of “father.” During this Voca on Awareness Week, kindly pray for more voca ons to the priesthood and the religious life, and if you can recommend someone for the priesthood, please write his name on our Called By Name prayer cards.

    Blessings and regards,

    Fr. PJ

Mini Medita on On Making God Present

“We must make God present again in our society. This is the first essen al element: that God be once again present in our lives, that we do not live as though we were autonomous, authorized to invent what freedom and life are. We must realize that we are creatures, aware that there is a God who has created us and that living in accordance with His will is not dependence but a gi of love that makes us alive.”

    Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

“The Rosary Altar Society of Our Lady of Hope Parish," invites everyone to reserve flowers in front of the Blessed Mother and Sacred Heart Statues at St. Jerome Church. Here’s One Positive Encouragement Wri en by a fellow parishioner

I am sure that every day we all pray whether we realize it or not. We know that saying the rosary, the Our Father, the Act of Contri on, the Hail Mary, or any of the other standards knowing that these are prayers. What about the other mes we pray and do not realize it? Do you ever say “God bless you” when someone sneezes, do you say “Have a blessed day” when you say goodbye to someone or “Peace be with you”, or “Thank God”? Do any of these phrases run through your head? I keep hearing the 23rd psalm The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want …Do you ever say” God why is this happening to me”? Whether consciously or unconsciously, these are prayers. Because we know we are part of God and God is part of us, and we are yearning to give homage and be one with him.

Speaking with God is our prayer. God speaking to us is what we call intui on. “The ability to understand something immediately without the need for conscious reasoning “. Follow your intui on, it's God speaking to you. This intui on (God speaking to you) has truly saved my life more than once. Listen to the thoughts in your head. God is talking to you.

    REQUIESCAT IN PACE

Please remember in your prayers the happy repose of the soul of:

    James Migliaccio

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,

And let perpetual light shine upon him.
