Message from the Padre

My dear friends, reading this Gospel reminds me of my childhood. When

we were growing up, my parents gave us house chores every day and my parents

would not accept “No” for an answer nor would they accept excuses or bargaining.

Not going to Sunday Mass was not an option. If you could not make it in the morning

then you had to go to a later Mass. If one of us were asked to clean our room or bring

out the trash… there are no multiple-choice answers, the answer is always “YES.”

We might argue about it, and might even say no and whine and complain about it, but

eventually we still had to do it.

Yes, at an early age, I learned something very quickly. Saying “no” to my parents was the best way to

create a living hell for myself. Saying “no” to my parents was a sure way of them getting back at me by saying

no to most of my wishes.

My dear friends, our parable today challenges us to be true to our word. Remember that no one gets a

reward for empty promises. As the saying goes, “The proof of the pudding is in the eating… and handsome is, as

handsome does!” Yes, good intentions alone do not send us straight to heaven. We may have lots of good inten-

tions, but if we do not mean what we say and do the things that we promise…then all is in vain and they are just

worthless and empty words. Remember what is important at the end of the day is, “Not what you say... It’s what

you do.”

Philippians 2: 1-11, Matthew 21: 28-32

Our Gospel and first reading today pick up on last week’s

readings: God’s ways are not fair! True, perhaps, only if

we apply our limited human values to God. Instead, let

us listen with fresh ears, and try to hear God’s challenge

to each of us to change our lives and take on the work

that God asks us to do in this world.

Workers and the Unemployed

That all workers may receive respect and protection of

their rights, and that the unemployed may receive the op-

portunity to contribute to the common good.

Have you received all

your Sacraments?

Have circumstances prevented you

from receiving your Sacraments?

Sacrament of the

Anointing of the Sick

Can anyone besides a Catholic

be anointed?

Under ordinary circumstances the anointing of the sick is

administered to Catholics who have lived according to

the Gospel (are in a state of grace), or those who at this

time of trial seek conversion back to a life of grace.

Christians who are members of separated Eastern

Churches may be anointed whenever they ask for the sac-

rament on their own and are properly disposed to receive

the sacrament.

Care for the Sick

members of our parish. To make arrangements for visi-

tation by a member of the Homebound Ministry, please

The Feast of

St. Francis of Assisi October 4th

St. Francis was born in Asisi, Italy in 1182 to a rich cloth mer-

chant. He enjoyed good food, fine clothes, and a busy social

life. All that changed when he fell seriously ill on his way to a

battle. St. Francis took the Gospel message literally and de-

voted his life to living in poverty. Followers gathered around

him, wanted to imitate his way of life and in 1210, he received

approval to found the Franciscan Order.

THANKSGIVING AT OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CHURCH

Feed-A-Family 2017

Each year our parish family par-ticipates in this special ministry for Thanksgiving to reach out to families who would not have this glorious meal without our help.

The Social Concerns Committee is asking you to consider putting together a Thanksgiving basket/dinner for a needy family.

This is how it works: Sign up on the form below and indicate the size of the family you would like to help. Once again, we have families with a pet or pets that need our help. As you shop for your own Thanksgiv-ing dinner, please shop for the other family too. When you are finished, please pack the ingredients of the Thanksgiving meal, with all the trimmings in a basket. Kindly bring the basket to the Street Com-munity Center on your designated day and time so it can be delivered to the family you were assigned.

To sign up, just fill out the form below and return it to the Parish Office. You will receive instructions in the mail as we get closer to Thanksgiving. For further information, call 609-267-0230 ext. 16.

Drop off weekend this year is November 18th & 19th.

Please return entire form as soon as possible,

but no later than Monday, October 23, 2017.
