Steeped in history, the Rose Hall estate has a long and

somewhat colourful past. Back in the seventeenth century,

Jamaica had a thriving sugar industry and Rose Hall was

one of the most successful plantations on the island.

Over the years the fortunes of the estate dwindled and in

the 1960s it was bought by the American entrepreneur

and philanthropist, John Rollins. His business acumen

helped the island’s tourism industry with the creation of the

Holiday Inn, Rose Hall Resort & Spa, a Hilton Resort and

the Ritz-Carlton® hotel complex.

Two championship golf courses – White Witch and

Cinnamon Hill - were built within the estate and further

complemented by varied resort facilities.

In recent years Jamaica has seen a surge of foreign direct

the outset. Robert van Hagge and Rick Baril were hired to

create a golfing experience second to none by giving them a

free hand to create multi-dimensional championship courses.

The famous White Witch course features stunning views of

the Caribbean from 16 of its 18 holes. The course is alluring

and unpredictable like its namesake, the formidable Annie

Palmer, a former owner of the estate. Just as her mood

The Cinnamon Hill waterfront course gives nature the right-

of-way. Playing along the beaches before sweeping up into

the mountains and valleys, the course gently winds its way

through the ancient plantation, passing waterfalls and floral
